Re: Bonne to Charlton
I haven't seen anything from Bonne anywhere since saying he'd like to move on. Not sure how you can bring up this interview a few weeks ago when there has been no evidence from him since then to contradict that.

My point being that £200k is a lot of money for a club to spend on a player baring in mind the above.CreamofSumYungGai wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 9:30 amAgreed with all those statements but not sure what your point is? We obviously love him and see him week in week out but for a team like Charlton the fact is:
- He hasn't ever scored above non-league (a couple for col u but thats about it).
- He is 23 (not old but also not young for a player taking a step up, or two)
- He only has one year left on his contract
- I assume he only signed an extension and was not let go in the Jan window because there were agreements in place that if he stays and gets us over the line, we let him move.
- I assume we have a decent add on included, and potentially bonus' based on how many he scored.
- This may be his only shot at the championship, he has to take it.
- He's been great for us, a real all rounder but he wont get as many chances in the champ and his first touch aint the best.
I could see a club like that taking a punt on him, having him in the squad and seeing how far they can develop him in the next 12 months. He's a grafter and sure would work hard on rectifying the aspects of his game he needs to improve.
Agree its probably worth a punt and whilst it seems low to us, taking aware our fan glasses, its probably about right.

Have you sent yours back yet?
We have always sold our best players for less than what they are worth over the years,
this is no different.
The fact is we don’t have the fan base to compete with the likes of Charlton etc.
Go back to the 1970s and see the problems Brian Winston had in trying to get more than 5000 home fans to turn up. And that was in the Championship.

It's really not a lot to spend on a player who has scored over 20 goals in each of the last 2 seasons, is it.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 10:06 amMy point being that £200k is a lot of money for a club to spend on a player baring in mind the above.CreamofSumYungGai wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 9:30 amAgreed with all those statements but not sure what your point is? I agree with you though, it's probably a stretch too far for him but I'd have no problem with Bonne fancying himself able to break into the first team there and wish him all the best in trying.

You don't expand your fan base and attract new fans by selling off your best players and failing to bring in quality additions to the squad it shows a total lack of ambition and it sticks two fingers up to the fans .

Re: Bonne to Charlton
Who started this rumour about £200k release clauses? I see that Sessions has now written about it.
It really would be poor if that was in his deal, but I don't think it squares up with the club turning down £1m bids over January. If that really was the price, he would have gone. There is virtually no risk for a bigger side on that type of money.

If sold the transfer fee will have to be undisclosed. I guarantee the hard of thinking will fixate about the £200k fee mentioned in this article if he is sold even though it could well be for much more.eagwgw wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 10:17 am Who started this rumour about £200k release clauses? That said, I don't think we turned down £1million for him in January. I do believe we turned down offers of £1million in total for three players though, of which he probably was one.

Re: Bonne to Charlton
If that's what it took to get him to extend his last contract - and remember, it took a while to be agreed upon - then that's fair enough.eagwgw wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 10:17 am Who started this rumour about £200k release clauses? I see that Sessions has now written about it.

Re: Bonne to Charlton
Yeah, exactly, people forget that he didn't have to extend his contract and we probably would have been forced to sell him in January, or earlier.
At the time I said that I assume there was a two way agreement that we would increase his money and give him a reasonable release clause if he agreed to extend and help us get promotion.
It's probably worked out well for the player and the club.

Re: Bonne to Charlton
Regardless of Bonne saying he wanted to stay or not, Charlton Athletic coming in for him is an absolutely no brainer. If I was in his position, I'd sign for them, and it would be one of the easiest decisions of my life.
Bonne probably only agreed to a new contract with a release clause in, again, fair enough. We got him for an extra year without having to worry about getting rid or risk losing on a free and it worked out very well for us.

Re: Bonne to Charlton
I agree. If several clubs come in an auction could commence. But if this clause existed, it's hard to see it not being triggered in January by someone, even if it was £1m for three players in total (not each).Smendrick Feaselberg wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 10:19 am

There was no rumours at all then about Bonne turning down a move despite a fee being agreed or even having a clause for release, and the biggest rumour was Koroma to Sunderland (which still could happen).
That's why I'm inclined to think this type of stuff is just agents work. I don't doubt there is a release clause, but nobody gets in trouble for putting out misinformation.
Re: Bonne to Charlton
Colchester had a 30% sell on!
Not exactly going to end up with much, if it's true.

This article confirms the £200k release clause. Still will need to be announced as undisclosed though.

Re: Bonne to Charlton
It's been a Win Win situation for just about everyone except PoundhillO.
Bonne signed his extension but was promised a move if we went up, Bonne gets a deserved crack at higher level football. We got promoted and a decent fee (less ColU sell on) for a player that cost us nothing.
Good Luck Macca and Thank you.

Re: Bonne to Charlton
Thing is, going back to the point about him potentially only renewing if he could include a release clause, Colchester may not have originally released him without that clause. So we ended up with a player who fired us to promotion and they end up with a sell on.

Re: Bonne to Charlton
I really like Bonne, but I would be shocked if he scored regularly in the Championship. It's still obviously the right decision for him, and I think it could work well for the club too, if we can sign a good replacement. Best of luck to him- if it doesn't work out at Charlton, he will drop down to league 1, so it will be a net gain, knowing he gave it a shot and made some money out of it too which is important in a short career.

Re: Bonne to Charlton
Exactly this. He has to go for it. But yeah, there's no way he'll score the amount of goals he has at that level. Any scouts coming down would be fully aware of that, though.Red_Army wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 10:49 am I really like Bonne, but I would be shocked if he scored regularly in the Championship.
