Re: Ratings
Cheltenham too tactically astute to let that lead slip, they exploited RB and we had no answer
Louis Vigoroux - 5 - couldn't do much for the goals, saved the first header but defence didn't help him
Brophy - 5 - wasted at LB as usual
Widdowson - 5 - more comfortable on the ball than expected but chaos in the penalty area for the goals
Coulson - 5 - slow in most things
Sam Sing - 4 - two goals from his side again plus a (dubious) OG
Cissé - 5 - tidy but seemed to slow play down a lot
McAnuff - 7 - best player in a red shirt by far
Wright - 4 - badly off the pace
Dennis - 6 - some nice touches tried to make things happen, deserves more game time
Connor Widdowson - 5 - plays like a striker pushed out wide, seems wasted out there
Johnson - 6 - often isolated but showed good skill and strength to hold the ball up. Should've scored though and he'll be disappointed at that looking back later I think.
Subs - 5.5 - minor impact but didn't change the game
Stream - 6 - no major issues this week, picture a tad washed out at times with the sun
Commentary - 4 - same as usual from Dave Victor, learn the players' names and stop getting overexcited about a backpass header to the keeper

Re: Ratings
Regardless of how he plays, Ling seems to be regarded as the number one choice for the right back position, so being as the young right back from Norwich was not considered for today's match, wonder why Judd was not given his spot on the subs bench ?

I can't comment about Jordan Thomson because I've never seen him play but the fact that Ling is playing instead of Judd who's better than him is irritating . Is Judd injured ?Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 6:15 pm Regardless of how he plays, Ling seems to be regarded as the number one choice for the right back position, so being as the young right back from Norwich was not considered for today's match, wonder why Judd was not given his spot on the subs bench ?

Re: Ratings
Hard to argue with the OP. Dennis maybe 1 higher.
No point in digging out Ling. He is first choice in any meaningful game despite limited ability, lack of effort and never taking responsibility. It’s 10 vs 11 every week. Being kind 10.5 vs 11. His plodding about and being an onlooker really hacks me off.
And don’t give me this issues due to whatever. Jobi at 38 puts the others to shame.

Re: Ratings
The game was won and lost in the first half hour really. Their left wing back caused us some real problems and Ling seemed to be tucked in but wasn’t given a lot of support by Wilkinson.
We looked very rusty in that first half and Cheltenham could easily have been 0-4 up at HT.
The Robins sat back in the 2nd half and while we huffed and puffed their ‘keeper didn’t have a lot to do. RE will be happy to have the players back for a full week but I feel we keep starting slowly and need to start games as Cheltenham did today .
Jobi at 38 was our best player today by miles.

I thought Wilkinson was playing RB much of the time. Not his position so hard to dig him out. Whilst he was doing Lings job, Ling was plodding about in the middle doing naff all.Cheshunto wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 6:37 pm The game was won and lost in the first half hour really. Re: Ratings
Agreed that Ling was poor defensively but we looked 2nd best all over the pitch really and only Jobi came out with credit.
We just can’t afford to keep starting games slowly and giving teams a two goal start before we get going.
Of course this has been an extraordinary week and probably is one we need to forget and move on.

Re: Ratings
Wright was also filling in for Ling on occasion, whilst he had himself a nice little picnic or something on the halfway line. But as bad as he is defensively, his impact on us with the ball is even more damaging. His constant hiding means we only ever attack down our left hand side.Dohnut wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 6:42 pmI thought Wilkinson was playing RB much of the time. Re: Ratings
Always felt a defeat likely in the unfortunate circumstances today, so free pass on that from my perspective.
Looked like we could get walloped early on, but to be fair second half we did play better and could have had at least one.
What puzzled me was the set pieces being taken by Wright, I’d have had Jobi on the ball and Wright one of the players trying to get on the end of it, he’s bagged a few with his head for us in the past.
Wimbledon game will help on Tuesday, think next Saturday will be a better match to judge us on.

I don't now why
Buying him was a foolish thing to do irrespective of his ability or potential - I said it at the time as a post on here.
Ling senior and others made it very clear Ling senior was not being part of the management on that transfer. - but was only a technicality or an academic statement of fact to massage any thought of conflict of interest - not the focus of the real issue looming - it has made a simple player weekly selection more complex for all- and caused fans to be resentful and that resent is not fair to the ling the player or even even the father.
Then it was emphatically stated that they do not talk about football in their house ( but they did on fletcher in Lings senior own admission).
However, it has and will create an enormous amount of actual or perceived unfairness to both son and father and fuel the negativity to both - he could be the best right back in the country but still because of lings senior behaviour( QA / fletcher / boss promotion as three examples) as us the fans see it ( or most of us have )-
it would be the best for all to find the player another club quickly
It would also relieve Ling senior from the critics

Re: Ratings
No ratings today because of the extraordinary circumstances. Only comment is to question why we ask Ling to tuck in when the opposition come down his side and don't ask Brophy. The first goal was a case in point, Hussey had all the time in the world to get in his cross. This happens way too often and has to be something Ling is told to do.

It’s almost as if we don’t have the confidence in him to play RB. In doing so his limitations are really exposed. Better to let him plod around and keep out of trouble and only get involved when he has to.jamespevans wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 9:29 pm No ratings today because of the extraordinary circumstances. How many times do teammates ignore him. Almost like they don’t want to give him the ball unless necessary.

After Peter Kitchen mentioned it last home game I noticed it today. There was one particular move where Ling had made an overlap for McAnuff but Jobi still chose to try and get the cross in himself, which ended up being blocked.Dohnut wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 11:33 pmIt’s almost as if we don’t have the confidence in him to play RB. What does happen is that the players talk and they will be talking about him behind his back, it happens in all dressing rooms and it’s a frequent thing that happens, find the weak spot and dig it out between you.
For me yesterday it must have been a dozen times he is just ambling back, no urgency to recover his position or more importantly to cover the person doing his job. When the goals go in you can see people looking at him, waving and pointing their arms at him. Ling though head down despondent. UO is right they need to move him on and give Judd a chance cos our defence will immediately be improved as along as he keeps his head and doesn’t get sent off!
