Good luck to Macauley Bonne as he starts off his career today for QPR, he has been given the number 7 shirt.

Wow, well done Mr Bonne !
As I recall, I think he did the same sort of thing for Charlton last season, in his first league game for them, came on as a sub and scored !

In all the years I have followed the Os, I cannot recall an Os forward who works as hard both on and off the ball as hard as Macauley Bonne.
Its almost as if you have an extra player on the pitch with the amount of work he puts in !
Surely must have been one of the things taken into consideration by QPR when making their decision to buy him !

Mr Bonne is number 7 for QPR, perhaps their fans will give him the ''Mr Bonne 007'' nickname !

Dont disagree with your comments Sid but could i drop the name of Joe Mayo who is the most unselfish centre forward i have seen. Great double act with Peter Kitchen.

Yes agree with you about Joe Mayo e.g ''the most unselfish centre forward i have seen'' but for sheer work-rate and helping out in midfield and defence, Bonne was quite amazing in the ground he covered. A dream player for a manager to have in his side. Of course Joe Mayo was the ideal foil to play alongside Peter Kitchen. It is always a big puzzle to me as to why we did not do better in the league with the really good players that we had in the Os side at the time Mayo and Kitchen were playing together. Also losing little John Chiedozie at the start of our great cup run did not help and I always wonder if having John on the right wing rather than Kevin Godfrey might have made that vital extra difference, especially when we played our 1978 semi final against Arsenal who got all the luck going on the day e.g for those who were not around at the time, Arsenal won 3-0 which included 2 fluky own goals for the England centre forward Malcolm McDonald !

Agreed. Even the likes of SGA and McGleish don’t come close, phenomenal work ethic. But it’s done intelligently, not just headless chicken running around.

Did Chiedozie not break his leg in FA Youth cup against Ipswich?

Yes I recall hearing the same story.
Great little player was John. I remember a home league game when we played West Ham and Frank Lampard senior really roughed up John and I think I am right on this, sure Lampard was taken off after getting a caution thus preventing him getting sent off. John was a target of some really bad tackles throughout his football career and was finished as a player far too early as a result of injuries he received when playing. Jimmy Bloomfield resigned from his job in 1981 following a dispute with the club chairman, Brian Winston, over the sale of John Chiedozie to Notts County. What a dream team of wingers it would have been if John and Laurie could have played together !
