Daniel Mays, the actor

Post by OKPete »

Often seen him in the East Stand but wasn’t sure if he was a fan or just a lover of bang-average lower league football.

Interviewed in the Observer today, turns out he’s a lifelong fan:

He’s a good actor, saw him recently in “White Lines”, and then this week in “Des” , totally different characters but in Des he was excellent, as was David Tennant.
I think I read somewhere that Daniel Mays lives in Woodford.

Is he an old Buckhurst Hill School boy, like Bazza and Nigel, does anyone know?

Me, I was West Hatch. I remember beating Buckhurst Hill at cricket, once.

He’s too young. The article says he’s 40 and Buckhurst Hill Boys closed in the late 80’s I think. They all went to Roding Valley school after that.

Says he went to school in Chigwell - don’t know Chigwell schools myself.

That game, in the late 80s, when the whole of the West Side was singing it! I felt really bad for them. Love his acting now.

I picked up Daniel and his family from Gatwick early last year when he came home from holiday. The first thing I said to him was “what’s the chance of you meeting another Orient fan here”.

He’s a really nice guy who’s a big fan of the O’s. We chatted about the club nearly all the way.

Btw he lives, or he did then, in Finchley

Really, are you a very rich person then who can afford to go out and pay a large amount of money for a very ordinary meal like that ?
I might be mistaken, but I thought it was you on this forum who said some time ago that you had no work and might lose the roof over your head ?
If that was not you, then I sincerely apologize for my mistake.

I’d say the chances of meeting an orient fan when jumping in a cab is about 50:50.

If you think that is expensive youd probably have a heart attack at some places prices for an Ordinary meal.

You are paying for someone to cook good food for
you in a nice Enviroment , you are paying for someone to wait on you to meet your culinary tastes.
To take away the stress of life.

Not only that but you are EMPLOYING PEOPLE
You are allowing a SMALL BUISNESS to flourish ..

Well I merely asked as if you do go out and pay such large amounts of money for meals like that, then you have considerably more money at your disposal for your own needs than i would wish to spend on myself. I cook my own food and also grow many of my own vegetables, so have have a very varied and healthy diet. For the sort of money paid for one persons meal there, well around 6 to 8 weeks shopping bill for me. Perhaps that is why I have large savings and can help others who are less fortunate than myself.

You can just imagine Sid driving around in a Morris Minor. "What, pay tens of thousands for a new BMW. I made this myself from a kit. Came in 396 editions of a magazine"
