U2, despite their immense popularity, are also underrated IMHO. Their songs really capture and encapsulate the every day frustrations felt be most people.

Take Sunday Bloody Sunday, for example. What a great song. It really encapsulates the frustration of a Sunday, doesn't it? You wake up in the morning, you've got to read all the Sunday papers, the kids are running round, you've got to mow the lawn, wash the car, and you think "Sunday, bloody Sunday!"

Each to their own I suppose. I can see the appeal in Pink Floyd although they are not my favourite. I just don't get Radiohead, but the wife loves them. Some very good suggestions though.

Most underrated? There’s only one answer, and that’s Cardiacs. A band that influenced bands as diverse as Faith No More, Blur and Napalm Death. Think about that for a moment. The album Sing For God is an absolute stone-cold masterpiece, yet how many of you have heard of it?

FWIW, back when they started I thought they were dreadful. That was my fault - I wasn’t ready for them. Only in later years did I realise how good these were. Sadly by then front man Tim Smith had suffered a catastrophic heart attack and consequent brain damage while at a My Bloody Valentine gig (which I was at) and they never played again, and Tim finally passed away in July after suffering dreadfully for 12 years.

Most underrated band of all time? Without a shadow of doubt.
