Says his company has all the safety procedures in place so they should forced to come back, yes but, who would want to go into the home of someone you didn't know to fix their boiler when you have no way of telling if the virus is present. These operatives prefer self employed status because they pay a shed load less tax personally.

That's certainly the case in large scale construction. Is that what his mob do, fit outs of new developments?

I assumed it was just one man in a company uniform going round in a company liveried van to fix broken boilers etc in houses? In which case, I don't see how they can get away with this. (Especially when you factor in that article above where sub contractors aren't able to choose their own hours).

However, I would reckon he charges the operatives for their van and uniforms -possibly via a third-party company, and makes sure all his operatives carry their own insurance so he keeps them at arms length.
What he does is normal in the construction industry.
Any Company making the decision to put their operatives on the cards would quickly find that the workforce would go elsewhere
The simple fact is that being a bonafide subcontractor is far more tax efficient than going on the cards

Pimlico Plumbers business model is quick and expensive emergency repairs. They would not be competitive or competent enough to handle large scale projects on sites.
They will thrive as long as the public are prepared to be fleeced when faced with an emergency situation

I agree that the bloke is deeply annoying, but his bank balance is probably healthy enough to demonstrate his success in this field

I think we're in agreement.

I'm pretty sure he's more than tested those boundaries, but those donations to the tory party should make sure nothing untoward happens to his business.

No real gripes with the man himself, I'm just staggered at the amount of air time and media coverage he and his relatively small business is given.

I agree with him. Many are using this furlough scheme as an excuse. Not all I have to add. But young , fit , and healthy employees should have returned to work months ago. It is all of our responsibility to get the economy going again and it’s in all of our interests. Lazing about in a local park , drinking beer , playing football , indicates to me that you could return to work.

It’s the same advise now as it’s always been. Social distance , regular hand washing , and now if inside , wear a mask. Until we are given a proper breakdown of the make up of cases , it’s difficult to understand the virus. I doubt there have been many deaths outside of the vulnerable groups previously given.
There needs to be more emphasis on the scale of the problem. 70 million people in the Uk.Even if there were 100,000 deaths , it’s not enough to crash the economy.

The purpose of the initial lockdown was to spread the infection rate so that the NHS were not overrun with cases.
We achieved that with amazing cooperation by everyone. What’s the excuse now. We now have low infection rates and an NHS dealing perfectly well with the numbers. Everyone should be back at work

No PoliticOs , no deaths would have been preferable. But it is what it is. The worry now is the estimated 50,000 cancer deaths because of testing and treatment suspensions, the millions of lost jobs , people losing their homes , mental health issues. Anyone advocating working from home needs to think very carefully about what that would do to the wider economy. We need a fully functioning city so that we can all begin to benefit again

You are correct Tuffers in that rates are rising. But still incredibly low numbers and in specific areas where people are ignoring advice. Local hot spots are easily contained. Nobody can predict what will happen next. There is no reason , with the knowledge we now have , that there should be a 2nd wave. It is simply banded about to focus the mind and to remind us to stick to the advice. And the current advice is to get back to work
