Henry Willink was the minister of health who drafted the paper that led to the creation of the NHS. He was a Tory. Labour came to power and enacted his paper.NuneatonO's wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 9:06 pm Our beloved NHS, the Jewel in the Crown of the Labour Party and British Socialism, turns 72 on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Tories have brought the NHS to its knees. Lest we forget:
• 15,000 beds cut
• 4m on waiting lists
• A&E at worst for 15 yrs
• £70bn+ handed to private health 2010-19
• 60 NHS Wards closed
• £20bn wasted on agency & consultancy spend
• 100,000 unfilled vacancies
Most recently of course, hundreds of NHS Staff have DIED, often due to lack of PPE; when all they ever wanted to do, was just to go to their place of work and save the lives of others.
Yet, purely to look good for the media, what's the betting Tory MP's and Spaffer Johnson will take every 'photo opportunity' possible - and happily be pictured clapping for the NHS on Sunday.
Two-faced, hypocrite Tory SCUM!

Many 'papers' are undoubtedly drafted dear chap - but at the end of the day, it is actions that speak louder than words.
Moreover, Willink's plan referred of a "publicly organised" rather than a "publicly provided" service; whereas Labour's plan brought hospitals into full national ownership.
Here's a background of Willink's paper proving that very point:

The fact remains that it was a Socialist British Labour Party that built and introduced the NHS.
Moreover, remind me again - how many times did Churchill's Tory Party vote AGAINST the NHS being introduced?
Oh yes - TWENTY ONE!
Who was one of the Tory M.P.'s who voted against Nye Bevan's NHS Plans - Henry Willink!

When you look into the history, there were many people involved and cross party support was common. The Beverage Report is a case in point.NuneatonO's wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 3:35 pm Many 'papers' are undoubtedly drafted dear chap - but at the end of the day, it is actions that speak louder than words.

Whilst the Labour Government brought it in, it is historic folly to try and ignore the many people involved in bringing about the welfare state and the NHS. Labour can claim the glory for bringing it in but please don’t devalue the contributions of others and other parties paving the way.
Bit like a 4 x 100 relay. Only one person crosses the winning line but give credit to the people who helped make it possible.

Re: Tory Watch
Not sure why you're bun-fighting over who did what 75 years ago - it's utterly irrelevant now.
However, 10 years of austerity driven by Tory ideology isn't. Feel free to argue that amongst yourselves.

Totally agree. I refer you to the right honourable gentleman who raised this point in the first place. I’m simply adding some very well documented context. Nothing to see here.

Re: Tory Watch
The irony of the Tories being forced to come up with Big State massive emergency spending measures only 6 months after screaming that Commie Corbyn’s plans were completely unaffordable isn’t lost on me. It’s like War Communism, I suppose.

They must be absolutely sick to their stomachs. Probably the only fun thing to happen for the past 4 months, other than Piers Morgan going from being the darling of the Daily Mail comments section to worse-than-Corbyn.

Doh don't be silly
3 weeks late on lockdown in comparison to NZ & Australia .
A total lack of preperation on ppe,
Ignoring offers from plenty of buisnesses
who were able to manufacture.

Re: Tory Watch
There's some pragmatic measures in his Summer Statement, however I'm disappointed that he felt the housing market needed further 'invigorating' with the stamp duty cut. At least it's only until end of Marsh 2021. Although I can see one or two of these policies being extended beyond the initial timescales that he's set.

It's either that, or see unemployment costs rise instead. We're all going to pay for this one way or the other, so we may as well pay for it in whichever way is most likely to help shore up as many jobs as possible.

Why give people 80% of there wages & not 70% or 65% ?
Supermarkets, brewers distillers & wine companies made plenty of money .
All at increased profits.

Re: Tory Watch
Do the stamp duty cuts apply to investment properties as well, or just your primary residence? Asking for a friend.Dunners wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 3:32 pm There's some pragmatic measures in his Summer Statement, however I'm disappointed that he felt the housing market needed further 'invigorating' with the stamp duty cut. 'None' is pushing it. But you could quite easily argue that most of them wouldn't have, of course.

Re: Tory Watch
60-65 % would have been enough,
Then let the banks help everyone who wanted more .
