Family history help

I'm gonna start looking up my family history and was wondering whether any boarders could recommend any sites that could help which they have had experience with.

Its mainly my Dad's side as he was orphaned due to his Mum being married and Dad a Canadian soldier over here during WW1. I have his birth certificate.

Ancestry and Family Tree Maker. Ancestry for the research, tree maker self explanatiry and they sync with each other. Been really good but we have turned up a few wrong un's!

I used AncestryDNA. I never knew that my father's side, from generations ago, originated from the west of Ireland, the Kerry
and Galway area, really surprised me. We have been to Ireland to try and find out about my partner's heritage. They lived in
the beautiful seaside town of Bray. Ireland is a fantastic country and the people are so friendly.

My first wife's mother spent a fortune on Birth Certificates etc and gave up in disgust when she found a large proportion of her ancestors, died in the workhouse.
Now my Mum's maiden name was Paget, The family name of the Marquis of Anglsey. There's a lot of clever people in the family and they have traced the family tree back to a geezer married in 1700 so obviously born 1680ish. That has got to be the way forward, or is it backwards ( find some rich person with brains in the family to do it for you ). If nobody steps forward. Presume all your ancestors died in the workhouse. Who wants to know that?

Also done Ancestry.com which is free to use from some libraries. It will email you hints too, which is clever. DNA test probably not worth it

Are they worldwide finders, because I'll need to look into the Canadian archives. I'm more interested in finding relations that are still alive. My Dad probably had half-siblings and inturn there should be many descendants about.

They have a lot of personal data. Sold on for advertising etc but they have no way of knowing what the people they sell it to are really doing. Scammers paradise. Also worth noting that these websites ONLY have access to information that's publicly available anyway - do it yourself.

My brother has been researching our family history for decades. Hoping to find links to nobility knowing my Brother.

What we have found is a distant relative who did time for hitting someone in authority with a fish, true, and another one who was transported to Australia. Oh, I forget, one found dead in a ditch.

Worst of all I have distant French ancestors. Jeez.

I'm extremely happy person, very happily married, in a happy home living a happy life. If you knew me you'd know that I'm an outgoing and very positive person who loves nothing more than laughing and clowning around. Life is to be enjoyed and I truly enjoy every single day.

Ancestry is the largest company in the world for family tree research and is easily the best for DNA matches. I used to be not a big fan of DNA claims when it was first released but now know how useful it is in proving research into your family tree. There were stems in my family tree I was uncertain about but DNA matches have proved them correct. Find My Past is also a good site if you are British.
It is not a surprise talking to fans in the Supporters Club, how many people who follow the O's have East Anglian ancestry. You can tell by their surnames.
