Re: Vennells
Kind of, but not quite. It’s not about individual people being happy with ruining lives. It’s about a system that has no humanity, and individual people within it having no interest or motivation in doing anything outside the system.

It’s not about capitalism: it’s about reliance on systems and a general trend towards assuming that people in positions of authority are likely to be competent and knowledgeable.

Yeah, I also agree she’s a decent constituency MP, and I’ve voted for her in the past several times. Despite at times being (occasionally slightly tongue in cheek) broadly supportive of Labour’s need to draw a line under the Corbyn era, I think they’re too far away from what the Labour Party should ...

Long and short of it is the club can sign a guy who has done this if they believe it’s worth the damage to relations with the fans that take exception. The fans who take exception are under no obligation to get onboard if they feel that the club’s stance is wrong. The people who made these decisions...

I’m in the safest of Labour seats. I’m undecided between voting labour out of habit, or abstaining on the basis that it sends a better message to give less than enthusiastic support for the incoming government.

I’m kind of cynical about “mental health week” type stuff anyway. I don’t know (genuinely) whether there’s any good evidence that they actually achieve anything beyond good PR for companies that get involved.
Actual awareness of social issues involves something a bit more meaningful.

Bit poor that he has actually provided some links as said and - so far - he's either been ignored or dismissed out of hand. Would be interested in hearing why some of the organisations referred to in those reports are wrong and/or discredited. It might have been a bit too subtle, but my posting tha...

Which period in history was it better to be poor in this country? That’s not the question though, if we’re talking relative terms. The better question would be at what point in history was there a bigger gap in standards of living between the richest and poorest? Difficult to say for sure, as the G...

The evil, abhorrent JK Rowling (who personally founded and funds the only female only rape crisis centre in Edinburgh) has had a say.

You’ll never guess what the throwaway sentence about “spouse objections” means in practice, by the way Go on….. Currently a person who is in a marriage with a person who comes out as trans can exit the marriage before the person is legally recognised as having “changed sex”, on the grounds that a s...

Roz Adams won her case against Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre. You know, the rape crisis centre run by a man with no gender recognition certificate. I’d warn you to only read this if you’re ok with the fact that you’ll be a full TERF by the end (or in complete denial) https://x.com/lucyhunterb/status/...
