That's clearly wrong though. Look at how much man city, Chelsea, etc have made on players who've virtually never played for them. The model is probably not sustainable with the new loan restriction rules, but it's definitely been part of their business models for the last few years

Liverpool just sold Neco Williams to Forest for 17 million, case in point

Never heard of him - just had a quick google and seems he's (currently) a Championship standard, Welsh international, 21 year old right back

They've obviously decided he's not going to quite be top level and challenge/displace Trent A-A. I refuse to believe that this is their model, sideline or otherwise. They put the time and effort into this kid because they wanted him to be good enough to play for them, not bring in a few pounds.

The two dovetail with each other really, these big sides know the top quality players are rare but an average Liverpool / Chelsea / City player is a top player for a smaller side. They know a steady stream of those tops up the transfer kitty even if the crop is mediocre overall.

Will be very interesting to see how these loan rules change things. In theory it should allow other clubs to retain their talent but we know in reality there will be loopholes, probably short-term free transfers with a sell-back clause much like FFP led to expensive brick purchases.

I don’t even know what we’re disagreeing about anymore. Is it that Orient should ‘moneyball’ players like this nico Williams kid?

Looks a decent prospect and suits how Wellens plays. Wonder if it means we sign one less central midfielder than we otherwise would have done, assuming that Pratley, Moncur and El Miz aren't here next season.

Darren Pratley to maybe replace Matt Harrold ? . .... Moncur , Meh ......Definitely must try to get El Miz back somehow . Anyway Zech signing a new contract is great news . From what little I've seen of him so far he looks a good player.

Amazing that his debut was 2 years ago https://www.lofcforum.com/forum1/phpBB3 ... lit=obeiro

Yeah, I expect him to be one of the 6, rather than in addition to them - should free up funds to get in the experienced pair we need to add (Galbraith, Sanders, Brown, Zech plus 2)

I like Sanders but going by this season he seems a bit of a sick note . If he can stay fit he will do well for us .

Glad he’s signed. Thought he was more of a left winger/attacking player but have been impressed with his tracking back and tackling. Think he’ll still be a fringe player but I’m happy to have him, could really progress under Richie and be a first team starter by this time next year

Made debut in midfield and looked a player for the future even then. I don't think he's suited to playing out wide. Unfortunately he was filling in out wide for later trophy games where he wasn't so impressive. Obviously comfortable on the ball in midfield, but still learning and prone to getting caught in possession, so personally I like him as an offensive rather than defensive midfielder.
