Thought it would be interesting to see how this evolves over the pre-season.
Assuming we go with the 3-5-2 again. Guessing JMD will play up front otherwise there's no real pace

With our current group that’s a decent lineup and should be good enough to keep us out of trouble.

Arthur Janata is in the squad too. Might find himself on the bench if Sergeant is loaned out for game time.

What about Happe playing as a defensive midfielder, just in front of the back four? He is a very steady player who does not often lump it forward. (Marvin is not a thug, incidentally...)

Who is this new central defender called ''Thug'' ?

It seems the forward pairing is still in a state of flux....

If and I think it's a big if, we play 352, JMD will be behind Wilkinson and Angol I reckon, and may end up being our key player throughout the season.
442 and I would expect JMD on the right and Brophy on the left.

We will line up:
Code: Select all
Brill
Judd - Ekpiteta - Coulson - Happe - Widdowson
Clay - Wright
Maguire-Drew
Angol - Wilkinson
McAnuff in a coaching role will probably make way at cm for Wright, might start at cam over JMD, as might Brophy.
After about ten games when we see our wing backs aren't good enough wing backs at this level and dependent on how well Angol/Wilkinson do, we will either move to a 442 or a 4231. Calling it now.

3-5-2 leaves us very light on CB cover, got away with it for a few months but risky for a season. I think 4-4-2 with a lot of long ball is coming.

Why would you have JMD on the bench
Both him and Brophy are tricky and could run defenders ragged

Let’s play it safe and go 1 9 1

Decent squad to put out a good team with good subs on the bench IMO. And I’ll let the coaching staff have the headache of picking the starting 11

Jeez if that’s the starting 11 I’ll give up my season ticket now
That’s the worst selection since Basil Brush left the building
Thank god you only tap nonsense on a keyboard

Suspect we will start with 442. Happe finding his way back to the bench. JMD playing. But it’s a squad game and hopefully RE will be skilled at ringing the changes and at the right stage during games to give plenty of pitch time for the squad and keeping players fresh and interested.
I’m reasonably comfortable with our squad and no doubt the reenforcements still to come in.
Comfortable mid to upper table a reasonable situation for us this season.

I'll wait for the coaching team to decide shape and tactics. However, I can see us playing the same way we finished the season.

You sure
I didn’t see any east to west players last season
So how are the coaching staff going to compliment Josh Wright’s sidewards movements
And don’t say I’m being obtuse and know nothing about Angols

Defo a winger as Dis and Cream would only bring negativity to the dressing room!

I would be surprised if we start with a 5-3-2 ( or is it a 3-5-2).
I would expect us to revert to 4-4-2
for me JMD would be the first name on the team sheet, and Brophy in his correct position, wide left, would be the second

Where do you play jmd in a 442? He fits better in my opinion as the attacking midfielder in a 3-5-2
