LIVE Entertainment Thread 2022
I'm actually going to a live gig this weekend, albeit postponed 5 times since 2020.
I will be witnessing legends Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbot in a Dublin park.
I will review later.
Post up your live entertainment experiences so we can all marvel at our cultural knowledge.
Also going to see Top Gun tonight (not live)

Re: LIVE Entertainment Thread 2022
I've been posting a few of my musical/play reviews on the What You Watching thread. Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbot are quality, so you'll enjoy that.
For my sins, I'll be going to see the ABBA Voyage show in a couple of weeks time. I'll be sure to tell you all about it.

I once reviewed a Housemartins gig at the Barrowlands for the Youni magazine and as a member of the press pack I got in for free.

Re: LIVE Entertainment Thread 2022
I've going to a postponed from March gig to see Evanescence and Within Temptation in Dusseldorf on November 25th
Last one I went to was in February 2020 to see Delain in Brixton
Awful journey, night of a named storm and for good measure caught one of the early Covid strains.
Missus and daughter got it from me too, reckon we had immunity from pretty much the start.

Last week I saw Adam Ant twice (Sarfend & Camden), next week I will be seeing Stiff Little Fingers on Tuesday and Toyah on Friday. Things are picking up for me.

I am going to see someone called Jimmy Webb in Embra this weekend. I don't really know much about him but Mrs Spike and her siblings have organised it.

He only wrote the two best songs Glen Campbell sung.

Re: LIVE Entertainment Thread 2022
Mrs S has always liked American things (although she's not into mass-shootings or going bankrupt because you got ill) and was into Country music and stuff I guess (she likes that Jackson Browne too).
Punk never really made it to Tillicoultry, as far as I can ascertain.

Luckily it's not 1977 and it's now acceptable to like Radio Stars and Glen Campbell's utterly sublime version of Jimmy's "Galveston"StillSpike wrote: ↑Thu Jun 02, 2022 4:08 pm Mrs S has always liked American things (although she's not into mass-shootings or going bankrupt because you got ill) and was into Country music and stuff I guess (she likes that Jackson Browne too).

Gender neutral toilets are kind. Until your missus sits down on a load of piss, that is. Then they suddenly become a f*cking disgrace and, before you know it, you're a nazi.

Re: LIVE Entertainment Thread 2022
Does that not mean men have to queue up though? I quite like waltzing past a huge queue of women and straight into the gents at events.

Re: LIVE Entertainment Thread 2022
One 3 or 4 metre trough would have solved the problem, but no, we all have to f*cking queue up to use the next available cubicle. Didn't even need a sh*t but thought I should, since I was in a sit down job. Didn't, in the end.
Stupid system.

Re: LIVE Entertainment Thread 2022
Exactly. I get that there should also be better toilet provisions for women, as it is a right pain spending time queuing for a toilet. But still also give men the long trough option, as otherwise you're simply compounding the problem.

I hope you enjoyed it. IMHO, Jimmy Webb is one of the best songwriters of the last century. Bona fide genius. I've seen him live 4 times but couldn't go last night. First time I saw him was at the Jazz Cafe in Camden in 1999, one of the 10 best gigs I've ever been to.StillSpike wrote: ↑Thu Jun 02, 2022 3:00 pm I am going to see someone called Jimmy Webb in Embra this weekend. Going to see Toyah at the Palace Theatre, Westcliff on Friday - I've still got my teenage crush on her.
Then got Blondie (postponed from 2021) and Queen (postponed from 2021) and Diana Ross (original scheduled date) later in the month.

Re: LIVE Entertainment Thread 2022
in the last month been to see David Gray which was postponed so many times i lost count and Bryan Adams at the RAH which was postponed at least three times. Also going to James/Charlatans/Maximo Park on Friday. Then in July taking the 12 year old daughter to see George Ezra and reliving my teenage years by seeing Duran Duran.
I also get to go to work at Festivals with my Job and was at the Madness/Supergrass/Squeeze (Squeeze were excellent and worth going to see if that type of music is your cup of tea) in Brockwell Park last Thursday. Then off to work at the Isle of Wight Festival next week.

Re: LIVE Entertainment Thread 2022
Marvellous gig by Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott. The weather was good, the beer not overpriced and the Wok and Roll noodles were spot on. They played a great set list with many old Housemartins classics thrown in which made me very happy. On the jubilee weekend he was delighted to be in Dublin and played Heatongrad which went down very well.
The next night it pissed down on Noel Gallagher but gave that a miss.
Was great to be at a live gig again.
Next is Pet Shop Boys in Cork

You also have a certain miserablist mancunian pencilled in to play at the Gleneagles INEC Arena in Killarney on 24 September.Constanza wrote: ↑Mon Jun 06, 2022 12:20 pm Marvellous gig by Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott.
