Cyclist Rips off Wing Mirror

I’ve just got back from watching boxing at York Hall. As I was travelling down Old Ford Rd an Uber driver in a Prius was getting proper close to the cyclist, I didn’t see them touch, but it wasn’t far off it.

Anyway the cyclist is doing his nut, giving him the bird and the old coffee shake signal, we slow down as there’s traffic, the cyclist speeds up, I’m thinking lovely this is going to kick off big time. The cyclist goes right up to the Prius and rips his wing mirror off! Then carries on cycling!! The Uber driver does nothing and turns right leaving the cyclist alone.

It’s a jungle out there be careful everyone.

Bloody cyclists don't pay road tax and jump red lights.

Any help is welcome in the war against Uber even from a natural enemy like cyclists.

I’ve just come back from my morning cycle. I’m not one of the Lycra brigade. Old track suit bottoms and sweat shirt. I’m stopped at the red light as a road user should be. 3 of the Lycra brigade come up alongside me and when the pedestrian green signal comes up off they go riding through the red light and swerving past the couple of pedestrians. I see this so often. IMO they deserve whatever happens to them for that sort of behaviour

While it's irritating I think ElliotNes takes it a bit far.

It's not the bike it's the person on it.Ditto with cars.

Whether they wear lycra is pretty irrelevant as well.

Correct as long as you realise all people are bastardz then there's nothing to get unduly upset about.

It is bloody irritating though. They jump about 12 sets or more and cycle at 10mph (if you are lucky) so you keep catching them up on the Cycle Superhighways.

I mean if they do it and are gone then the problem is gone.

I had two cyclist experiences in the past couple of months. Both irresponsible actions by cyclists who seemed to believe they dont need to comply with regulations, or even good manners. Won’t bore you with the details.

Last footy season as well I came within inches of a cyclist who whizzed past, and I mean fast, at a pedestrian right of way near the Orient ground.

I have some sympathy for cyclists who say cars pass too close, they sure do sometimes, and there is no excuse for that.

The hardest places I find to cycle are the Cycle Superhighway 3 (From Tower Gateway to Limehouse) and the North side of Tower Bridge going North.

Generally on the North side the problem is the vehicles are in the arrowed straight lane when they want to go left so tend to cut across into the two left hand turn lanes. Can't go to the right as the cars generally turn right at the top which would result in cutting across to get to the left.I would think another problem is motorists don't really know the layout or are trying to "jump the queue!.

Suppose I shouldn't moan about the CS 3 because it sure beats cycling through Bank and many parts of the City but it's well dodgy and even more dodgy in the rush hour.

On the Cycle Superhighway 2 there are ready made blind spots at the island bus stops so they can get their advertising in.Had a pedestrian step from behind one at 4 in the morning a few weeks back so now I'm well nervous of them.

I avoid the Cycle Superhighways as much as I can.

I'm a weekend cyclist. I try to avoid cars (they hurt) but one of cyclists main problems is he condition of the road by the roadside. It causes them to come in and out of the kerb because potholes are a cyclists nemesis. Cars are every bit as bad as bikes, usually because driving has become a trance like experience for them. They only spot the dangers at the last moment.

It proper annoys me seeing grown men wearing lycra, sometimes I even yell stuff at them as they pass me by.

In my view the only people wearing Lycra should be the track athletes, all these plebs wearing it around town look exactly like that a PLEB!!

That is a massive thing to say about car drivers. to generalise car drivers are not aware of dangers is just too stupid for words. Car drivers, generally travel at more than 10 mph have so many other things to focus on, including bikes, and given the state of our roads being careful of potholes just adds to the stuff drivers have to watch put for.

Any biker who spots a pothole late, then Swings out to avoid it, is an idiot. Bikers have a responsibility to be aware of road conditions and signal ( a novel idea for bikers ), be aware of traffic and manoeuvre when safe. They don’t have the right to just pull out and expect everyone else to adjust accordingly. Many bikers in my experience seem to believe the rules of the road do t apply to them.

I'm not convinced these anti cyclistas rants are helping with the campaign to improve road safety for cyclists and car drivers. I drive a lot in my job and would say at least 20% of car drivers are not fit to be on the road.

We could argue about percentages, nobody knows for sure. I agree though, personal experience suggests there are road users not fit to drive. But at least at some point drivers have demonstrated a competency to drive and an understanding of the Highway Code. Any person with a bike can just get out there on the roads of Britain without even knowing the sequence of traffic lights. Then moan about car drivers. Perhaps a competency test for cyclists is overdue.

You moan about cyclists not tucking in but you break the most basic just to suit.

Cycle Super Highways aren't very safe and when you are lured into this false safety attitude then that is dodgy.

That's another thing. The Cycle Superhighway is not designed for fast cyclists so so long as you are pootling along at no faster than 10 mph you should be ok.

I pull into the road on the early commutes to avoid the pedestrians.Only on the very early shifts when there isn't much about but I still stop at the reds.Don't see the point of jumping to save a few seconds because I can't be bothered to wait.

Also I'd like to think some motorists respect me for it.

Sensible. The last thing we need is a civil war amongst cyclists distracting them from the war against the real enemy.
