Any two will telepathic understanding and an eye for goal will do. Oh yes, a proven penalty-taker as well.

Well the penalty taker bit rules out Mooney.

They're not in yet though. Ling and Embleton OUT.

Nothing about midfielders, apart from Josh Wright.

That must mean we're not signing any! Or any other positions! Panic!

What NT actually said was only to do with forwards as we have sold 2, released 1 and transfer listed 1.

I am certain that we are talking to other players as well. Especially as Dayton has yet to sign.

Looking forward to learning who the new forwards will be, but I agree that we also need a couple of midfielders. Clay can't be expected to do it all like he did for a lot of games last season.

Clay, Wright, Gorman, McAnuff. It's not inconceivable that we don't sign another central midfielder. I hope and expect that we will sign one, but certainly not two.

McAnuff is not a central midfielder.

He certainly played there last season. The point I'm making is that we don't need two more in that position.

I agree with your point although not your workings ;)

Unless we can get someone to take Gorman on a 2 for 1 with Jimmy?

Keep hearing Shaq Coulthirst & Enzio Boldewijn no idea if true but keep hearing from multiple people!

I don't think McAnuff will play much this season. Now that he's been appointed player coach, he will wish to concentrate on the coaching side. Let's face it he's 38.

You're never going to please everybody but let's hope the majority of us , including me , think their two good signings .

Disagree. If he is fit enough and able to perform at last seasons level, he will want to play as many games as possible. Not 38 just yet.

You're right that he will want to, but being able to is another matter.

Where McAnuff sits in the squad now will be interesting even before you take coaching into account.

You can't make him your primary winger as L2 defenders will be a bit wiser than at NL level and we saw last season he was tiring before moving into CM.

Similar story in CM, he's easily our best ball player but as a pairing I think that's a big ask.

With the personnel we have it looks set to continue the 3-5-2 with a combination of McAnuff, Clay, Wright, Gorman and JMD as required.

There's no point basing future team selection on the personnel we have at present. It just doesn't work when we haven't finalised the squad for a game in 5 weeks time.

Exactly and that's why we need at least one more central midfielder. We could do with a Vincelot type midfielder

Is that a serious comment or just speculation on your part. I would dig those two.

If we go 4-4-2 he can happily play wide left. Especially away from home when you may need someone a bit more disciplined and who will graft. If we go 5-3-2, he can happily play in the middle, as long as we have the extra man helping out. He’ll still be massively involved but hopefully we won’t be as reliant on him as we were last season. It’s not fair on the old boys legs.

I agree, I still reckon we should stick with the 5-3-2 although a forward line of Wilkinson and Harold will lend itself more to a 4 4 2 and getting crosses in from the wide men.
