Does that mean he is only a junior member of the Death Cult and not a full blown member?

 Some club(s) are going to embarrass themselves trying to outdo others with commemorative poppy shirts again this month, aren’t they?

No need to burn him but I expect three days of denigrating front page headlines and a weeks worth of LBC phone in shows as a minimum.

Thought it was appropriate at this time of year to merge both poppy / mascot threads together here. Feel free to add pics of your favourite tasteful commemorations / sad looking mascots. Like this one.

Are you including the ones executed by firing squad by their own team for cowardice in this respectfest?

Back in the "good old" 60s, 70s, 80s and much of the 90's, wearing a poppy and Rememberance Sunday wasn't as big a thing as it is today. Minute silences at football and other sporting events rarely happened and certainly not for Rememberance Sunday.

It is required to give cover and meaning to the futile wars we fought in Iraq and Afghanistan.its a propaganda trick and it looks like by and large it works because people are too scared to breach imposed social norms to challenge the militarization of society.

I thought the autumn international England Rugby poppy kit was a tad OTT, but nothing says respect the war dead than a pair of poppy trainers from a German firm started by a Nazi, does it?

English also went on to say:

"Struck by the replies to this from ex servicemen agreeing. I feel that remembrance is necessary. I also think it's become increasingly undignified, conflated with nationalism and detached from reality as we recede from lived experience of the wars. How do we fix that?"
