The best I’ve seen us play this season was in the shape of 4-4-2 that day we were sharp, had purpose, played with pace and created plenty of chances. It was exciting to watch.

Now I’m not suggesting I know more than KJ, but surly if it works why change it? Ok we are defensively sound and we don’t really concede however, at the other end we don’t really score now either.

We have solid full backs who can attack well and centre halves who defend with purpose. Have good wingers who are creative, our central midfield is about stopping others rather than creating chances and forwards who can score goals. In that very brief summary it says to me our best chance of creating chances is via our wide areas, get the crosses in the box for the forwards to score from.

Come on Kenny let’s get the chances created and start ripping teams a new one!!!!

Excellent post, could not agree more been saying this for weeks now.
Hopefully Kenny will change the system to 442 or have some more going forward.
Good managers change tactics or formations to get the best results, bad managers that usually get sacked in the end get stubbord and won't change tactics or formations because they think they are always right

Got to get back to mixing it up more rather than it in the end, no point having Archie, Smytg, Kemp etc unless they're going to have the ball at their feet rather than seven foot in the air

Correct on all 3 counts. We had one bad day at the office v Harrogate and changed approach after that, really strange.

I said after the Harrogate defeat they won’t keep that up as there squad is way too small to sustain a challenge over a whole season. That day they absolutely deserved to win and full credit to them for how they applied themselves to that challenge. I have not changed my opinion.

This all rather smacks of a the same sort of thoughts that Monkey Boy has been posting on both forums for quite a while now ?

It's all so simple. Embleton would have a job if he played 4-4-2, Jackett would have us promoted if he played 4-4-2. It's so obvious, why can't people who have been involved in pro football see this!!!

4-4-2 is an effective formation that works well and that the players understand, IMO, a formation that should be used more often by the Os.

4-4-2 is the only formation that old people can understand well IMO, a formation that should be used more often by the Os.

As soon as we played 4-4-2 against the majority of teams who play 4-5-1 or 4-3-3, and we are getting bossed in midfield week in week out would be calling for something else that was good in the 70s. Maybe we could churn up the pitch to stop other teams passing against us? (Not a bad idea actually)

What makes the same people who say that we are weak in midfield think that having 1 less player in there compared to other teams would make us better?

What makes you think it won’t work,you obviously know better,it’s working so well at the moment. No need to churn the pitch over it’s in immaculate condition,coz there’s enough sh-t put on it every other week

It may well work, but Kenny knows the players and has the experience to know better than any of us, and he doesn’t think it will work sooo….

Our expectations were heightened by a couple of good performances at the start of the season. We are almost exactly where I thought we’d be. We are 3 points outside the playoffs and 4 points from the automatic spots with 70% of the season left to play. We need to shake up some of our approaches to games and certainly the squad, but don’t sh*t the bed yet.

They played two up front from the start for one game and they won soo.....

He will have to change the formation because he has to it’s as simple as that, end of, and if he doesn’t this run will continue experienced or not,but perhaps you can come up with a better idea, coz you seem full of it/them

What ideas have I proposed? Kenny didn’t see us win with 4-4-2 and thought, you know what? That worked, let’s go back to a losing formation. What game btw?

Know you are a bit of a football dinosaur, but you must be able to understand that the game has moved on.

Yeah yeah,Well let’s stick with the current formation it’s working a treat, like I said you obviously know better, your so modern and progressive it’s frightening,I know in a few years when they’ve exhausted every system /formation known to man they will actually go back to a tried and tested system,and that will be either 532/442 so stick that in your so modern and progressive pipe.

I think it suits us, just need to do fewer balls aimed at Smiths head.

Results are not proving that at the moment and didn’t prove it last season. Smith is isolated, Ruel is no winger he plays better down the middle and he’s the only finisher of any quality,so why not try them together up front,nothings working at the moment

Results are not proving that at the moment and didn’t prove it last season. Smith is isolated, Ruel is no winger he plays better down the middle and he’s the only finisher of any quality,so why not try them together up front,nothings working at the moment

We didnt play 343 last season and that was a totally different squad.

Ruel hasnt been playing on the wing.

Yes your correct it was a different squad and we mainly played 433 but still three up front,however Ruel does play wide,wider than I would like him to play and IMO as a dinosaur

Jacket now plays 4 in the middle hoping to make up for a lack of creativity in the midfield which is a little ironic due to the fact he plays more direct than other mangers we have had recently. We have 2 good full backs so play them there,we have 2 good wingers(when fit) play them there. We have no creativity in the middle of midfield so use the channels and over lapping full backs if necessary

I agree with a lot of what monkey boy says. Having said that, I would still like KJ to go again - for a few games anyway- with Archibald, Smith and Drinan up top.

Plainly not working well at present so worth a try to play with 4-4-2 and Ruel playing down the centre. Nothing ventured then nothing gained !
