Massively over-rated songs
I will never understand why any version of Leonard Cohen’s dirge Alleluia should ever get air play.
But with live music/bans in bars the worst of all time has to be Mack the Knife - an anthem to all middle-aged wannabe gangsters - with puts an entirely new meaning to the word ‘tedious’.
Be interested to see what other ‘bangers’ are hated by this MB

One man's meat is another man's poison. Thank God we are not all the same. Show a little more tolerance. Maybe you need a Holiday.

Clive - it’s a discussion you numpty.
I am interested to learn what songs irritate fellow Mbers
I am in holiday already thanks - and this thread was inspired by having to listen to the two songs mentioned above - played by the hotel band last night.
I’m pretty sure that some songs I like would make others’ teeth grind - as you correctly say that’s the beauty of human taste.

Happy Birthday. Everyone knows it, sings it, but it really is a load of repetitive nonsense.

Birdie Song was good but the accompanying dance moves made the instrumentals sound comical.
I sometimes wish we could change our O’s victory tune but Arthur behind me loves it.

Re: Massively over-rated songs
Most of the songs mentioned were decent, but fitted perfectly into a place and time that people from that era remember fondly. I don't think a sinle song mentioned on here is from an artist I would follow, but I like many of the songs because of the feelings they stir up. Apart from Leonard Cohen!!

Anything by Paul Mc after he left The Beatles, with special credits to the Frog Chorus and Hey Jude (repeat 168 times).

Re: Massively over-rated songs
Have recently bought a new turntable so to celebrate I bought Carole King's "Tapestry"-thought my wife would enjoy it -together with a double Joe Bonamassa album (vinyls). I had heard of Tapestry being a classic but god was it boring-my wife said she preferred Joe B, that's how boring it was.
But, with my new Rega deck, decent amp and speakers my old vinyls sound fantastic-listening to Led Zeps "whole lotta love" move between the speakers was amazing
Back to topic how we rate songs very much depend on our taste. However for a perhaps massively underrated song catch the Kinks "Celluloid Heroes"

I've always had an irrational hatred of Tainted Love by Soft Cell. Don't really know why, just found it really irritating and I still do.
