Just gone to book a blood test and got this message.

Due to a national shortage of blood tubes, no new blood test appointments are being taken at this time. If your blood test is urgent, please contact your GP or hospital clinician.

Mind blowing. What's going on?

Apparently there's a shortage of the glass bottles that the blood is taken into.
We are becoming a third world country before our very eyes

So basically, no one knows how it happened or why there isn’t a contingency plan?

I'm sure someone in the Cabinet will have a mate with zero experience in procuring these products and who can bid way over market rate. They'll get a contract that means they'll be paid regardless of whether their products are usable, and we'll all be another few billion out of pocket. And no, the mate won't come up with the goods, and we'll be in just as much a pickle.

Materials have been diverted, supply chains broken.

For instance, i have heard of shortage of computer chips because materials were needed for vaccines. And this shortage also knocked onto not enough computer chips for new cars.

The supply chain shocks caused by the economic and trade disruption from Covid are really starting to take hold. There was also an entire major port in China that was shut down due to them trying to contain a covid outbreak. We have several major projects on hold due to material and labour shortages.

And, yes, Brexit will probably be a contributing factor too. Even if Brexit turns out to be a good thing in the longer term, it was also going cause some disruption. It probably would have been sensible to delay it for 2 years to gauge the impact of Covid, however it would not have been politically palatable.

The NHS only store 4 weeks supply of blood vials from Beckton Dickinson (based in the US). Reads a lot like the supermarkets 'just in time' approach to their products.

I have a stake in an online kitchen equipment company and can’t get the stuff out of the ports in China. No containers. Everyone in same boat and if you’re kids need toys for Xmas you might want to start looking now because come November, December prices are going up and stock down.

Scaremongering? I had mine taken last Thursday at Langthorne Centre and had my results today. Said I’m very ‘Orient Red’ in on of the tests.

Yes. Supply shortages in items such as timber for construction and semiconductor chips are affecting most of the world. However, we do have post-Brexit trade and labour disruption to contend with in addition to that.

That's just my standard caveat to try and deflect the inevitable defensiveness from leave voters like yourself whenever any evidence of negative consequences to Brexit are pointed out.
