Take it back. If it promises that and don’t deliver, return without delay.

I am still struggling to understand the point of such devices.

Perhaps it's my age, but they seem to be a solution to a problem that doesn't exist

I looked into buying an Alexa a few weeks ago. My understanding was that you connected it to your wifi and you needed ios10 to operate it. There was no indication that I had to pay for any music and that I could use what was free on the internet.

Are you sure it's name is not Alexis and used to play for Man Utd with the raging hump?

We've got one in our house and I have trouble being understood by it. To counteract this I have taken to conversing in a pronounced mid Atlantic accent verging on full blown American at times.

I've even started telling everyone to have a nice day which isn't like me at all. I can't deny I'm not worried.

Alexa is just Amazon’s voice controlled virtual assistant software, isn’t it? Basically a verbal keyboard. Just like Siri on Apple. The actual music, books and other stuff belongs to Amazon’s silo stores and has to be coughed up for according to their price list. Agree with Spenny here - can’t see the point beyond the initial novelty factor.

We’ve got an Alexa Ron
I love it but I’m not sure what we pay for it. if you buy a lot from Amazon then it’s worth having Amazon Prime which is Β£7.99 a month and the music is Free. If you don’t play or like music then I can’t see much point in having an Alexa.

I thought the rule was never buy anything from a dodgy geezer in a pub unless its in its box. By doing that you are not supporting housebreakers.

I've got one linked up to an old mobile phone I use in the bathroom.I use it as a bluetooth speaker and rarely use it to turn my lights on or off.The speech recognicion sometimes is pretty poxy.

This advert is what it's like at times. So bad someone decided to take this p155.Not the original advert I was looking for but funny all the same. :)

Don’t forget it listens all the time and Amazon have confirmed just recently that it will record everything it hears even if the wake up word has not been used. Scary.

I already knew but thanks for the heads up.That's why I limit it's use and only recite my secret formulas when it's off. :)
