Poor game, Our better players were again defenders.
Vigouroux. 6. No real saves to make. Distribution not great.
Ling. 7.5. Had a really good game again. Well done Sam.
Turley. 7.5. MOM. Has been MOM or close every week since his return and was again outstanding.
Akinola. 7.5. Calm and composed alongside Turley.
Widdowson. 7. Defended well. Struggled to get forward.
Kemp. 6.5. Not his best game. If you are not playing well at least put in 100% and he does. Never gives up summed up in the final seconds covering the length of the pitch to tackle one of their players.
Brophy. 5.5. Pretty poor. It’s a rookie mistake to assume he rips up the league by just simply playing him left wing. Lack of space exposes his one footed ness.
Cisse. 5.5. Not good. What is his USP? 6 foot +. 13 stones. Use it man. Use it. Sooooo annoying.
Clay. 5.5. Cisse makes him look good..just kidding, he was terrible. Will likely get a new contract. We have to do better.
Wilkinson. 6. Drifted in and out. Coulda had a pen in last few minutes. Maybe outside box.
Johnson. 6. The invisible man. I guess he worked hard.
Subs. 6. Hector wasn’t fantastic but better than Laurel and Hardie in the middle.
Walsall. 6. Limited but worked hard
Macanuff. 6. Ran out of ideas but you can’t win them all. Cheltenham a must win and they crushed us in the reverse fixture. Will be tough.

I disagree with your rating regarding Widdowson . He seems to have been covering two positions at once.

Yep. Had a good game. Only marked him down as he came off pretty early.

Vigs - 5 - had literally nothing to do but kicking was pretty poor albeit in windy conditions
Widds - 6 - solid. Provided some support up the pitch
Turley - 6.5 - made a few decent tackles, had an easy day really.
Akinola - 6 - likewise Turley but he’s distribution is poor, proper clogger.
Ling - 6 - thought he did ok and got a bit positive in the first 15 mins, getting forward but it didn’t work. Scared of closing down crosses.
Cisse - 5 - don’t know what he plays for
Clay - 4 - thought he had a shocker. Couldn’t make a 5 yard pass all afternoon.
Brophy - 5 - real off day. Looked scared to take on his man, looked shattered from the first min.
Kemp - 6 - pretty quiet. Probably had our best chance.
Wilkinson - 6.5 - our most lively player. No idea why he went down in the last min. Think he was fouled but don’t believe he couldn’t have stood up.
DJ - 4- ghost like. Barely had a touchy
Subs:
Hector - 6.5 - cool and calm. Done extremely well in the build up to the wilko pen shout. Must start next game.
Dennis - 6 - good cross for Kemp chance
Jobi - 5.5 - not much time to make an impact but a few nice touches.

MOM was the the scaffolding . Steadfast , resolute and unforgiving. Not exactly a game that will live in the memory but a points a point on the back of 4 straight victories...

Another cure for insomnia, perhaps a new product line Danny Macklin could look into along with our other 0 shots on target matches this season.
Vigoroux - 6 - no saves to make but back to that wide kick out which doesn't have a great success rate
Ling - 7 - started the game with his usual "Lingbackto" pass but did win us a corner, which is about as exciting as it got today
Turley - 7 - another clean sheet, solid
Akinola - 7 - as per Turley
Widdowson - 7 - as per the other 3 defenders
Clay - 5 - not up to scratch for a promotion chasing side
Cissé - 5 - slow
Kemp - 5 - didn't really see much of him today
Brophy - 5 - seemed to be cutting in all the time today, didn't fancy the sprint down the line for some reason
Wilkinson - 6 - battled for a few headers, needs to work on his diving to make it look a bit more convincing, trouble is he's not exactly the quickest so looks a bit fake even if there was contact
Johnson - 5 - bit of an existential crisis being a striker today
Kyprianou - 5 - no impact
Dennis - 4 - no impact despite getting the ball with space to run into
McAnuff - 6 - made one more.forward pass than the rest of them but no end product either
Set pieces - 2 - why the hell play our corner short when you have Turley in the box and a ropey opposition keeper?

Don't know why I'm surprised at Cisse's marks so far. His languid style will never make him a fans favourite, but we stood far less chance of conceding when he was on there. It was very noticeable that Walsall got into our final third a lot more in the second half. Didn't think that Hector took the opportunity afforded to him very well.

I’m not sure what you’re expecting from Hector. There ain’t many 19 year olds with just a dozen games under their belt who are going to come in and dominate a game with 15 minutes here and 30 mins there.
Hector looks totally comfortable at this level.

Hector isn’t exactly a holding midfielder in the traditional sense is he? He’s not hard tackling, just can carry the ball and always shows for it.

He’s just a ‘normal’ midfielder in a 4-4-2. None of this FIFA inspired CDM/CAM gubbins.
He can do the lot, always looks for it, can pass, tackle, runs with it, scores, gonna be a big lump too when he fills out.

I thought that Cisse did at least try to pass more forward passes today and even a few first time passes to up the tempo.
I like Hector but don’t think he added much when he came on.......maybe it’s the travelling he’s done recently.
The most worrying thing for me was again the lack of creativity and lack of shots on goal. Their ‘keeper today looked very shaky early on and yet I can’t remember him making any saves of note after the 20th minute.
I lost count the number of times long balls were hit in DJ’s direction only for him to lose the ball and for it to come back.
He’s not a target man and needs service ie crosses from the wings or someone in midfield who can pass the ball, somebody in t(e mould of Lloyd James maybe ??
We looked better when Jobi came on but it doesn’t bode well for next season if we rely on a 39-40 year old for energy and creativity.
On the plus side our defence looks better and can claim another clean sheet. Turley was superb, not a great footballer, but a very effective ‘ stopper’ with Tunji not far behind.
I think we have the basis of a team who can achieve a play off spot maybe for next season, or maybe higher if the recruitment is right in the summer.

Cisse's style is languid, but he has excellent feet and rarely loses the ball when in a challenge. He Does waste the odd pass, but not to the extent that Clay does.
Reckon Cisse with Hector could work, rather than the either/or scenario we seem to have at the moment..

Definitely.
We’ve played Clay and Cisse as the 2 in a 4-2-3-1, so absolutely no reason Hector and Cisse couldn’t do it. Only issue is that would required dropping Clay.

We've definitely made a rod for our own back making him captain, which was a totally unnecessary thing to do.

Clay was poor yesterday and maybe it’s time he was rested.
Any news on Freeman’s injury ??

Ignore his age, he has to be good enough to play for the team. Referring back to my remarks, we looked more solid when Cisse was on the pitch, as opposed to Hector's time out there. In a year's time Hector could be a monster of a player at his level but yesterday he definitely showed his age.

How can you say ignore his age, then conclude he showed his age yesterday?
I thought we were a bit better in the second half than the first. More energy and tempo. That's not entirely down to Hector but he played a part in that.

Its a forum, we disagree! As regards "showing his age" he's hit the team a bit earlier than is normal and yesterday I felt he showed in his defensive work that he was not up to the same level as the first teamer that went off, leaving us more exposed.
