I have a really vague memory (I was 10) that in about the 80th minute the ball went out for a throw into the east stand and a steward did kick ups for about 30 seconds and everyone was cheering. But I reckon I might have made it up. Let me know if it features!Smendrick Feaselberg wrote: โThu Feb 11, 2021 8:43 pm Started to watch Orient 8 Doncaster 0 from December 1996 on YouTube the other day. Was 2-0 when I stopped it. Finishing it this weekend (though IIRC we took out foot off the gas with 30 mins left).
You are 100% right but illogically I was a f*** load more excited after this game than promotion from the NL
You were 10 in 1996Apple Wumble wrote: โThu Feb 11, 2021 9:24 pmI have a really vague memory (I was 10) that in about the 80th minute the ball went out for a throw into the east stand and a steward did kick ups for about 30 seconds and everyone was cheering. You must be our youngest fan by some distance.Apple Wumble wrote: โThu Feb 11, 2021 9:24 pmI have a really vague memory (I was 10) that in about the 80th minute the ball went out for a throw into the east stand and a steward did kick ups for about 30 seconds and everyone was cheering. Me too.
I was there and totally agree regarding the comment "though IIRC we took out foot off the gas with 30 mins lef)."Smendrick Feaselberg wrote: โThu Feb 11, 2021 8:43 pm Started to watch Orient 8 Doncaster 0 from December 1996 on YouTube the other day. It was a young Doncaster fan, not a steward, when the ball went into the old enclosure at the front of the East Stand (south end) - not far in front of me in fact, as I sat in the East in those days. Nearer 5-10 seconds than 30, and much amusement expressed that they should bring him on as a sub. But no, you didn't make it up.Apple Wumble wrote: โThu Feb 11, 2021 9:24 pmI have a really vague memory (I was 10) that in about the 80th minute the ball went out for a throw into the east stand and a steward did kick ups for about 30 seconds and everyone was cheering. A bigger annoyance was when I turned up for the 1pm kick off only to find it was 3pm. This was on Boxing day and so i had to sulk off to a family gathering whilst watching ceefax (remember that!) for updates.A Pedant wrote: โFri Feb 12, 2021 3:32 pmIt was a young Doncaster fan, not a steward, when the ball went into the old enclosure at the front of the East Stand (south end) - not far in front of me in fact, as I sat in the East in those days. And yes, we really took the foot off the gas. After the 8th goal O's fans were chanting "we want 10!" as there was a real chance to beat the record, and at full time there was even annoyance that we hadn't scored more.
Wasn't the game between the Boxing Day and new years fixture? That's how I remember it.LittleMate wrote: โFri Feb 12, 2021 5:03 pmA bigger annoyance was when I turned up for the 1pm kick off only to find it was 3pm.
