Cooked Goose

Post by Max B Gold »

I see that young Jamie "The Geeza" Oliver's company has gone into administration. Bish, bash, bosh and it's all over.

Shame really because I don't mind him that much.

The restaurant trade was the goose that laid the golden egg, now it is saturated and a lot are going bust. There has been some criticism over the quality of his food at some of his restaurants.

Same with that Gino geezer, his restaurant in Camden is way overpriced and pretty poor with a 20% service charge being a joke.

Shame - quite liked Jamie’s Italian. 1300 staff at risk apparently - hope they get sorted.

Been taken to his 15 restaurant a handful of times. They were lousy dining experiences.

How fortunate for him that the rest of his profitable (and of course, entirely separate) media empire remains unaffected while all his restaurant staff and creditors beg for pennies from the administrators.

He should think about paying all the staff losing their jobs 3 months salary out of his own wealth. It'll be tax deductible. But will he, will he heck.

Can't stand the guy myself. But I'm not keen on a lot of "celebs".

Bit too full of himself for my liking and yes I feel sorry for his staff and hope they get new jobs and also their full redundancy entitlements.

Doubt it Sid, they’ll more than likely end up with the state minimum.

Similar story to Gregg Wallace and his business ventures that have gone bust. Always the low paid staff at the bottom who are the ones that suffer.

At least the government will give them something although not enough. If we were french they would be proper looked after, 2 years on 90% of your last salary, while here people get the square root of f all.

Have little sympathy for the cheeky chappy, who has got rich off the back of others working their butts off on minimum wage. Prop Joe is spot on.

Depends really though Dis, as he may have given out personal or cross corporate guarantees, either way they will hurt him although not as much as the staff will be hurting right now. Also nothing was mentioned about their pensions, after the BHS scandal I would have thought that the press would have been after him on that front, but haven’t read or seen anything in respect to pensions.

Wonder if the press is covering for him?

Possibly. He is not being mauled - the press reports are going easy on him.

He has lost 13 million that he put into that business though.

Not necessarily, it could have been a bank loan? Why would you put in that amount of cash and a few months later bin the business, don’t make sense to me. If the business is haemorrhaging cash and the end is nigh don’t through good money after bad surely? More of it than we know I think.

Agree with Thor. He admits to being an idiot when it comes to business but no way would he chuck £13m good money after bad unless it partly came from elsewhere or he could afford it. Which brings us back to our original point - he can swallow this without much more than dented pride, his staff and creditors likely can't.
