Retained list

Confirmed by the club to be announced at some point this afternoon. We know about the two Charlie’s (lee and grainger) departing, but who else do we expect to leave ?

http://www.totalorient.co.uk/contract-expiry-dates/

I expect Widdowson, Clay, Harrold, Turley, Dayton and McAnuff to be offered contracts, which would mean lawless and Simpson depart with lee and grainger

I'd be surprised if we kept Dayton on anything more than a "lets see how your recovery goes" basis. I doubt whether he will be the player he was 18 months ago for a long while - if ever.

Have heard Lawless has been released.

Ticking around to the afternoon now.

You would think that any further extensions might be mentioned before the released list?

I thought the same.

Also worth bearing in mind that just because we want to keep certain players that they may want to move elsewhere

Widdowson has improved all season and had a cracking game yesterday. Lawless is a bit part player who won't be retained, I agree about Dayton and his constant injuries. Tend to think Harrold would play very little football next season so not worth retaining and Turley would only be a back-up CB (he's not a right back). McAnuff can stay until he's 50 if he wants.

Could be that other discussions are ongoing? Might not be in a position to announce those that have extended just yet.

Depends what deadline lingy has given them before they have to f**k off elsewhere. ;)

Confident we'll offer something and he'll accept.

It was interesting than when we brought Harold and put brophy on the left and koroma on the right, rather than take Widdowson off, Justin withdrew Happe and moved Joe across. That's obviously how highly he rates him. (In case awarding him his player of the season wasn't enough of a clue!)

I'm a bit undecided about MacAnuff. I love him to bits and he's been mostly great this season, but he will be 39 next season. I wonder if he has 90 minutes left in him. Can we afford bit part players?

Feel MacAnuff should stay as he is a good ambassador and motivator. Perhaps club captain player coach he is definitely well worth
retaining.

Yes, we can afford him in the squad, absolutely.

Nope all done and dusted a while ago. Justin said so in an interview with Dulcet Dave prior to the final.

Think we can do better than Harrold but not fussed if he is kept as a super sub type. Agree with the above that Dayton won't be the same player and don't think we should take the gamble tbh.

Bit surprised we are retaining Harrold. He’s been good in about 10 games for us over 1.5 years and can’t imagine a step up will do him well.

Dayton’s the other surprise considering his lack of form this season and his two bad injuries.

Get the sense that they are both really good characters and part of the offer is because of how they bring the squad together. Imagine both will be 1 year deals.

Good to see Alabi hopefully on his way.

Bit of a Hotler invades Poundland list given what we already knew. Should free up some cash for the much needed newbies. Will be amazed if Alabi is easily shifted but I think Harrold has done enough to suggest he could again be an impact sub (7 subs next year on the bench).

Will also be interesting to see what offers come in, if any, and what that frees up. 4/5 Good signings and we will have a competitive squad.

Both Dayton and Harold have played their part this season, and will be more than acceptable as squad players for next. No one is expecting them to be first choice.

Agree fully with what you say about Harrold, Dayton and Alabi.....but will anyone want to sign Alabi ?
Lastly, I hope it is not a case of Harrold over someone like Paul McCallum who is a proven Goalscorer and a brute in the air.

Shocked to see Dayton being offered a deal. Very pleased for Matt Harrold who fully deserves it. Pleased to see Alabi transfer listed- not because I don't like him, but because it shows good ambition to seek an upgrade.

What are you going on about? The retained players know who they are, the players being let go know who they are, the players being offered deals know they are wanted and are in negotiations with the club. So I standby what JE said that it’s all done and it has, the club have complied with all their legal responsibilities in respect to informing players.

If you listen to what JE says and what he wrote specifically in the program about Dayton then you shouldn’t be surprised. He likes him a lot and in his last or last but one notes he said he should be back for pre season training. He never specifically said with us, but I read it as he meant with us.
