Absolutely this . He's been outstanding and is my player of the season. We desperately need one or two more of his calibre in central midfield playing beside him.

Deserved, think we could and should improve upon him and get a better quality player in. His performances have been welcome considering the problems we had in central midfield, but I don't think I have seen much to suggest he could step up a level, sorry. But as a squad player he is definitely handy, not the type of sub to change a game but perhaps to shore things up.
Two new first choice midfielders and Clay and Gorman as back up would be my choice for next year, although Gorman is about as unproven as he was last year and really needs a good pre-season this time around.

Clay will be first choice next year that's for sure and I've no issue with that, he's earned the right after his performances this season. Any player coming in will be to play alongside him, not to replace him.

I can see Alabi and Gorman both sent to Boco Island.eagwgw wrote: βMon May 20, 2019 12:45 pm Deserved, think we could and should improve upon him and get a better quality player in. Boco Island will be a little less full with an extra two places on the bench. That said, it's time Lawless permanently transfers there and is joined by Alabi for sure. Gorman may come good, but can't see Alabi ever making the grade.

Also got Jobi as cover in there.eagwgw wrote: βMon May 20, 2019 12:45 pm Deserved, think we could and should improve upon him and get a better quality player in. I'm happy enough with this news, he's done ok and it keeps consistency within the squad. But we need better in the starting 11 if we're going to challenge next season.
Yesterday was a stark reminder of what we lack in the centre of the park. They afforded minimal cover to our back line and rarely broke forwards in support, the one uncharacteristic surge and shot from Clay excepted. It's still our achilles heel.

Re: 2 year extension for...
If we had a much better first choice, then I'd be happy enough with him as a starter. But ideally I'd like a more defined holding player/ball winner alongside a playmaker, the traditional set up.

Re: 2 year extension for...
I agree but we also need a second central midfielder to provide competition. At the moment Gorman is only fourth choice.

Re: 2 year extension for...
No good just making that point solely about Clay when it is a weakness shared by most of the team, thus the last three games we played and scored NONE !

Definitely would move on from him this summer but the fact that he's taken over the captaincy is probably a sign of him staying

He Has been a good servant, and his application cannot be doubted. I'd be happy for him to get another year, on the understanding it's as a 'squad player', but as you say, looks like JM likes him, and that's fair enoughSmendrick Feaselberg wrote: βSat Mar 27, 2021 8:02 am Definitely would move on from him this summer but the fact that he's taken over the captaincy is probably a sign of him staying

Re: 2 year extension - Craig Clay
Think they need more goals from midfield more creativity yes you can have one or two holding players in a squad but wasnβt there a lot on here questioning the last few games that he was just running around aimlessly and what was he doing in the side???
