Shots fired at Waltham Forest Council.

IN ACCORDANCE WITH CARABAO CUP RULES, TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR HAVE BEEN AWARDED WITH A BYE TO PROGRESS TO ROUND FOUR OF THE CARABAO CUP AND WILL NOW PLAY CHELSEA ON TUESDAY 29 SEPTEMBER.
The Round Three tie scheduled for Tuesday 22 September between Leyton Orient and Tottenham Hotspur could not take place following the issue by Waltham Forest Borough Council of an order preventing the match being played as planned. This followed a number of Leyton Orient players testing positive for COVID-19.

The EFL Board has determined that in line with Carabao Cup Rule 5.1, the Club was unable to fulfil its obligations to complete the fixture by virtue of the Council’s order and shall therefore forfeit the tie.

Spen will be ecstatic

West Ham were able to fulfil their tie - no basis for them to be thrown out.

yeah probably, but i mean theres no incentive for teams to get tested before playing a prem team. They will lose the tie and lose the money associated with it (as well as paying expenses) if theres a positive result so why will they bother as its not a requirement by the efl?

It's interesting though. What's the criteria of wfbc to prevent a match being played? It's not like closing a pub because they've not been following the guidelines

Yeah, but we missed out because we had 18 (eighteen) positive tests. That is, literally, a show-stopper. No other club has yet to report an outbreak on that scale. That points to poor risk management within the Club, first and foremost.

I doubt 2 or 3 positives would result in a forfeit, as you can see from eg West Ham.

And now, Prem clubs will be justified to use this case to insist all EFL teams get a test first. And they're very likely to get their way, I expect.

I'm puzzled as to how the EFL have stitched anyone up by publishing in advance of a competition the rules and then applying those rules.

If they had not applied the rules, then that accusation of stitching a club up may have some credibility.

You may not like the rule, you may not like the outcome, but it is palpable nonsense to suggest the EFL have stitched anyone up. They have acted in accordance with the published rules.

Unfair, wouldn't have happened to other way round.

spen, when you read the terms and conditions in full for everything, do you laminate them to keep or just put them straight in your library?

Shocking and when you think about it a really RECKLESS decision by the English football governing body in my opinion (regardless of all the rules that spen spews out). let's just say this happened to a club in the previous round and Tottenham come asking us to test. If we then say no and play the game, as the rules allow us, spreading the virus unknowingly and God forbid to one of the 'big boys' of English football. Probably would've have ended football for this season there and then.

So you don't think it's reckless to encourage teams NOT to test for a possible life ending virus that is very clearly, very easily spread.

Ok then , as you were

No EFL team should now get tested when they play a Premier League team. Then we will see it kick off big time. Stupid decision.
