Exeter City windfall
Nearly £4 million on its way to St James Park after Brentford sold Ollie Watkins to Villa for £28 million. They originally sold him to Brentford for£1.8 million plus 15% of any profit. They are probably regretting the salary cap right now.

Doubt they care too much. That money probably gives them a profit over the next 2-3 years and they have a decent squad this season. Good to see a small team rewarded for developing talent that got poached.

Exactly why we need to really develope and push our youth players forward.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 2:07 pm Nearly £4 million on its way to St James Park after Brentford sold Ollie Watkins to Villa for £28 million. Re: Exeter City windfall
Kind of - this is an extreme though, as what is the incidence of League Two teams selling a player whose next transfer nets them £5mill +?AckneyAwks wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 3:09 pmSmendrick Feaselberg wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 2:11 pm Will go a long way to securing their future this and next season.Exactly why we need to really develope and push our youth players forward.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 2:07 pm Nearly £4 million on its way to St James Park after Brentford sold Ollie Watkins to Villa for £28 million. Re: Exeter City windfall
Very few but both sides of this are valid. We have to be in it to win it. Our Academy may offer the possibility of an unlikely lottery win but there isn’t one at all if we don’t develop our own. Well done Exeter though, very nice windfall.

Re: Exeter City windfall
So, Exeter got £1.8 mil for him, when they sold him to Brentford.
When we sell a youngster, we get a pittance for them.
Abrahams, Alzate, Dalby, Bonne & Koroma all added up together didnt net us £1.8mil.

Re: Exeter City windfall
None of the players we sold on were anywhere near Watkins class. Abrahams is now a L2 player, Dalby yet to play for Watford,Koroma struggling with the step up and despite doing OK at Charlton if Bonne was sold tomorrow he would be worth a lot less than £1 million. Alzate will have a good career in the Premiership and if he signed for a big club we could do well from it.ComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 4:04 pm So, Exeter got £1.8 mil for him, when they sold him to Brentford.

We have sell ons for Bonne, Alzate and Koroma our sell ons for Abrahams and Dalby bombed out so we will have to wait and see if they pan out at all.
No Player that we have produced in the last five years comes anywhere near Watkins it's not a like for like comparisons.

Re: Exeter City windfall
The kids you mention were 16-17 in the main. Watkins did not break through into the Exeter squad until he was almost 20 and so the comparison is hardly valid. He's more alike Sotirou in the respect that he developed quite late. Let's hope Ruel can kick on in a similar way.ComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 4:04 pm So, Exeter got £1.8 mil for him, when they sold him to Brentford.

PS Even I think of Watkins as a kid, but he's 25 in about 3 months time. I like him for many reasons, so I hope he prospers at Villa.
