Found this photo of the squad from the first season I started watching the O's in 1968. It's funny how some players I remember fondly (8), while others, their names, don't ring any bells with me, but probably do to some supporters. It's probably the one's who played for a few or more seasons after who I remember most, or those who were my personal favourites. Totally unrelated, my Auntie Rose lived in the blocks in the back of the photo and survived into her 90's.

... who remembers the golden goal 'rip' tickets they used to sell at the ground (advertised in the background) that had minutes and seconds for the first goal, with the odds at 5,400/1 of winning in 90 minutes and also the 'half-time scores' that were hung on a board on the wall with hooks like at cricket matches?

Here's some more nostalgia for you. I also used to get the coach that ran from Stratford Broadway to the Wick on Friday nights and watch the Hawks through my perspex board on the bend, before going into the pits to get the riders autographs. Ah, that smell!

The Golden goals was started by commercial manager Brian Blower, with the Golden girls.
I worked the programmes before the game, and at half time would put the scores in the slots behind the goals. They were in alphabetical order and corresponded to the alphabet in the programme. many times running out of 0

Good old days they were. Looking at that photo, especially the North Terrace, takes me back to the time that, if it rained heavily, you just
stood there with the brolly up, also going up the steps and into the khazi. Could fans still walk round the ground from one end to the other

Yes, they used to open the gates at either end of the West Side at half time and you could relocate to the goal the O's kicked into if you wanted.

The terraces were awash with Percy Dalton bags, peanut shells, discarded loosing goal time tickets and the square sheets of grease-proof paper from the hot dogs at the end of every match. If we lost there would also be lots of the little white programmes laying about.

The smell of onions from then still brings back memories of the match day hot dog stalls that were in the surrounding streets.

P.S. I stand corrected; it was slots and not hooks on the half time scores.

Blimey, no wonder the onions smelt if they were that old.

That badge sparked quite a debate and was soon scrapped after the first season. That was a really good side and has parallels with our National League winning team in that Jimmy Bloomfield took over a team with no confidence who were close to the bottom of the table and made only a limited number of changes winning the division the next season.

He was a great manager and along with Peter Angel (an Os legend in my eyes) made an excellent management team.

we played Boston in round 2 of the cup. We drew 1-1 at there place and played the replay in front of over 11000 fans at the home. I was working the programmes, and we run out programmes 15 minutes before kick off, never happened before
really tough game winning 2-1, Mancini and Halom, both goals headers at our North end.

Think i started going to the wick around 67 maybe just before, great memories.
