Nicely sums up the game.

All the talk of playing football, keeping possession but our goals came from a hoof to Johnson and piece of individual brilliance from Wilko. The only other chance fell to Clay and was from pressing hard and high.

Literally no idea what Ling thought he was doing for their goal. Leaves his winger and dives in needlessly on a player infield, then ambles back rather than sprinting full pelt to rectify his mistake.

He never sprints back to recover his position or to cover the person who is now covering him. It really frustrates me as like you say Redo he just ambles back.

That Johnson goal was quality. Difficult high hoof up field. He nudges his marker, takes a touch and lobs the ball all within about a second. Impressive

When I have seen Judd playing at his best, e.g in form and fit, he sprints back to his defensive position when he is caught up-field and needs to get back to his defensive position, he has lots of fizz and energy in his game. Ling on the other hand just ambles back when caught up-field and out of position.

That's why he is not good enough for anything above non league football, he is in my opinion extremely lazy and has very little positional sense.

Looking forward to seeing what Danny Johnson can produce this season. He could turn out to be a key goalscorer for us.

As hard as people are going to be on Ling for the goal:

- The midfielder is in so much space with nobody else looking to press, forcing Ling into two choices, press the centre mid or stick with the wide man. If Ling doesn't press, the midfielder has got a ton of time and space to carry the ball into our final third.

- The left wing back is completely open (you'd argue Ling should stick on him in the first place, I'd agree), however Wilkinson has contributed literally 0 when we're out of possession there. He's a striker being converted into a wide player, so I wouldn't expect this to be natural instinct and there's certainly a level of reward from playing him there (e.g. the second goal) - but it doesn't help defensive stability.

- Coulson isn't getting across to the ball carrier, he's got a ton of time and space on the ball and I think a more mobile defender (read Turley) would have covered a lot more effectively.

Yes our shape in the middle was poor (I’m blaming Cisse and Jobi for that) but Ling should have held. We then shuffle across as a defensive unit so Coulson goes to face the bloke with the ball.

I get the criticism of Wilko defensively generally but he’s not at fault here.

The amount of space Ling left his bloke in, there ain’t no one getting over to stop the cross coming in. It’s ridiculous to suggest Coulson should have stopped that.

There’s only one bloke to blame for their goal yesterday.

It was a sublime pass, get it right.

Very similar to his goal against Gillingham, hopefully he’s going to be the player everyone said he would be.

No ones mentioned Happes role in the og......only how sh*t Ling is just before ( which he was)
Happe was under no pressure there. There wasnt a FGR player near him to pressure him, so a bad mistake by the youngster.
Just shows even good players make mistakes occasionally

Ling just lunged into that tackle, sold himself and did not win the ball. After that, he just ambles back with no urgency or energy about him, big improvements needed.

Surprised more people aren't commenting on how good Wilkinson's goal was. He made that goal out of nothing really. Great run in from the wing and more or less passed it into the net. Terrific goal. That's not to take anything away from Johnson's goal btw - that was pretty good too. Great to see our front players looking confident and taking opportunities.

As for the Ling debate, jeez. He missed a tackle, get over it. He's not great but RedO is just on a non-stop wind up about him. Pinches of salt at the ready......

I think that sums up why many prefer Judd. Neither RB is of particular high quality even by L2 standards but Judd works hard and tries hard. Gets involved. Ling plods around. The contrast I posted earlier, Ling and Jobi, when both needed to chase back was stark. A 38 year old providing supreme effort to prevent a shot vs the plodding of Ling that led to a goal.

It’s almost like he feels he doesn’t need to make an effort and work for his place. It remains to be seen if he gets ousted in the league by Jordan Thomas.

Wilko is a very good footballer!! I think he has much more to offer.Shame he has to make his own chances because service to him is minimal..Fantastic effort for his goal

Wilkinson’s goal was top draw. As was Johnson’s. Neither chance was easy, both taken with great skill. Fantastic to see.

Ling. It’s more than one missed tackle. It’s how he tried to rectify it. Hardly chasing back to make amends. Who needs slow motion reply to watch Ling play, slow motion is his natural game.

And count the number of crosses coming in almost unchallenged other than his usual hop or jump. OK he was up against a decent player but his defending was little short of pathetic. He looks disinterested. Little effort, not much passion.

Players make mistakes, it happen. But for goodness sake let’s see some sodding passion, some effort, some energy.

A missed tackle that directly cost us a goal.

This isn’t a wind up. In my opinion he is the standout weakest player in our first team squad. There are multiple better options in his position. He has started this season poorly but is still getting selected. It stinks.

I read that as Turley and Thomas to start at Oldham . I totally agree.
