Motivational speakers
Just listened to one of the most inspirational motivational speakers on football I have ever heard, it was given by Matthew Upson son, and is well worth a listen, absolute brilliant, and can be used in all walks of life. Although mainly about football, the main point can be transferred to any situation to keep on going.Matthew played nearly 400 professional games and represented England 50 times
His sons name is Ed.

Re: Motivational speakers
I worked for over 20 years for an American multinational Pharma company.
Attended many motivational courses accompanied by similar videos such as this ( this one performed by an American actor with the usual cheesy words and background music that you get in these kind of videos ) some of the courses I attended were so ridiculous and laughable but the Americans love these sort of things !!
I wonder if the Os players and staff have been subjected yet to any similar American motivational courses and videos ?

Re: Motivational speakers
A good comic parody of American motivation courses !
I have been to many that were so laughable and ridiculous, we used to have a good laugh about them afterwards.
Really surprising that the company wasted so much money on these crazy courses that achieved absolutely nothing.

One of these courses at the American company that I worked for, was a 3 hour one that the whole of the engineering department, around 60 people, were forced to attend.tuffers#1 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 28, 2020 5:55 pmI worked for a company that tried to implementSid Bishop wrote: ↑Fri Aug 28, 2020 5:47 pmA good comic parody of American motivation courses !

The manager of the engineering department was running the course ( a little man who did not like me ! ) so he picked on me for the first question ! He held up a plastic cup from drinks dispenser and asked me what I saw it as, I said a plastic cup from the drinks machine ! He pulled a face followed by a long groan ! Then he asked the next person ( one of his favourites ) and gave him some clues as to viewing it as something completely different, the guy then said, ''well you could put use it as a plant pot'' WOW, the manager pressed a button on the gadget he was holding in his hand and a video came on a screen showing a fireworks display with some rousing loud music and the manager did a little jig on the spot whilst clapping his hands in delight ! Yes that was the answer he wanted and a succession of silly examples followed. Throughout the rest of this session, he made a point of looking at me now and again whilst pulling a face and groaning. He did not phase me one bit, just made me realise what a pathetic person he was hoisting an even sillier course. The point of the course was supposedly to be able to look at things in a different way !

Re: Motivational speakers
One of my old bosses had the reputation of being a total whizz in his field. He garnered friends in very, very high places. He held a staff meeting almost every morning and yes he was quite charismatic. But I thought he lacked substance. After I had been there 6 months, I had brought the fact that I was being bullied by my immediate boss to my department Head, twice. They tackled my immediate boss and he held his hands and admitted it; but no real action was taken. I was now entitled to my State Pension as well as BT Pension, I got fed up with the situation and told them to stuff their job. But it was all handled very badly and the Big Boss didn't wan't to know. Now I would have been very fed if I was in his position, knowing my staff were bullying another to serve their own purposes.
A short time later this whizz kid was in a load of trouble for breaking ( to us ) an obscure law. His friends in high places didn't want to know. He was hung out to dry. Although near retirement age himself, he took up smoking and drinking heavily. He wrapped his car around a tree, 3 times over the limit. Sometimes you need to have a bit more substance than to talk the talk.

Re: Motivational speakers
At Tax Payers' expense, we had a guy, at considerable cost, who was brought in to gee us up prior to a big change in the Civil Service department I worked in. He told a story of JFK visiting NASA at the height of the space race with the Russians in the early 60's. He noticed a lowly janitor sweeping a corridor and asked him what he was doing (personally, I would have thought it was obvious) " Helping put a man on the moon, Sir" came the reply. You can imagine for months afterwards in the office, every time someone was asked what they were doing, what the reply was

Re: Motivational speakers
Takes all sorts I guess. We’ve all done the crap motivational sessions but some decent ones too.
The one I really like and listen too to this day is “the fear and the power” by Anthony Robbins. Ignoring the bullshit presentation style just listen to the content, NLP, it’s actually very good. So many times in my career and my life I was struggling so I’d revisit and without fail my focus and motivation got a boost. It don’t fix problems but helps deal with them in a positive way.
In amongst the crap out there, some good stuff exists, if you are receptive to the concept.

I didn’t flounce as you well know. Common decency would not allow me to post under the insulting name given.. And I did try to get this fixed personally and with the help of others. Ultimately I created a new identity.
I have integrity.
