He’s obviously politically trained.

More a case of thinks before he speaks. Sometimes most of us should learn to do more often

Why did you do to get two questions asked?

In answer to Smendrick's question:
"Two non playing staff members were made redundant two months ago due to "economic reasons" - but since then we've recruited an assistant manager, McAnuff has come back into the coaching team and now Harrold has joined the coaching staff. How have we added these additional coaching staff if economic reasons meant we had to lose these two non playing staff members two months back?"
Danny says:
"Matt Harrold is an opposition scout analyst, development coach of the u21s and won't be there most match days".
"Jobi will be focused on playing and is looking sharp".
"The club have had to make difficult decisions over recent months. Certain roles and departments have had to be restructured".
"We're really pleased with the staffing at the club from all aspects".
In summary, he didn't actually answer the question but said the club has had to restructure certain areas. It begs the question why Martin Ling decided to say "we have to reduce staff and they were let go due to the economic climate" rather than say what it actually was. It wasn't really a question for him to answer and he was a great listen for the rest of it. Thanks Andy for putting the question to him.

Having just finished it, he didn't really answer my other question about being on the board for Premier Sports either.
Think you need to let go of this Ling thing, he probably didn't articulate it as well as he should have but we can easily work it out from what he said and what subsequently happened with the coaching staff.

I'm not that bothered about it

Probably too much to ask that the director of football can articulate a really important issue, where 2 people have lost their jobs, in an accurate and articulate manner.

Sometimes things don't get articulated correctly - sh*t happens.
I'm guessing he's not the most comfortable talking on video camera or radio given that I don't think he has been on any of the podcasts/Orient hour etc. But those aren't crucial components of his job and we have other people that are good at that, so no bad thing to delegate those tasks to someone who is better at it.

I just asked two topical and constructive questions about things that actually mattered.
Omygawd and gshaw also had two questions read out too IIRC.
Think this was a good example of a show where lots of questions were read out and how it improves the interview. He didn't really probe when Macklin dodged some of them though.

Just listened to it SF, and I thought he answered the question of the redundancies rather well. I posted earlier about how it was handled and suggested roles may have been realigned and it seems thats the case.

Well, yeah...clearly that is the case.
But I'd expect that he didnt get asked just walking to his car. He had time to prep and to think about what he was saying.
Everyone articulates things badly, but a pre recorded video that also could have been redone if it wasn't what he meant isn't really an excuse imo. Especially from someone senior. In any organisation you cant get senior people to say things what isn't true. It's not his first time saying the wrong thing either.
So it leads me to believe that he was lying or is just incompetent when peoples livihoods are on the line. Either way, it's not someone who I like being responsible for decision making at my club. But thats just my opinion.

I've spoken to my solicitor who told me I haven't got a leg to stand on and to accept Bills description of 'button monkey' as a true and accurate one.
Think I will get a t shirt (black of course) with 'button Monkey'printed on it.

During lockdown the audience for both the station and our show has grown considerably. We are now averaging around 10k listens a show, up on the station average which is brilliant news for us. The station hierarchy tell me that they get an accurate online listen an accurate listen later figure and an average for the FM audience.

Really important?

Two people were surplus to requirements. I'd never even heard of Emma and I doubt you had either.

I’m not sure what is so difficult to get your head around. They were let go because the club had to “REDUCE STAFF” due to the “CURRENT ECONOMIC CLIMATE”. More staff were employed after that happened. It really isn’t difficult.
If it was restructuring then no one would have a problem with it at all. The language used and the actions taken don’t match up.

Yes they can't afford two GK coaches in the current economic climate.

There wasn’t 2. One was let go to make room for Brill.
