I am not very fond of the fashion of re-naming pubs. EG Slug & Lettuce etc. Equally not all that fond of Wetherspoons. But they seem to have come up trumps naming the mega-pub by the Tower:- The Albert and the Lion. You have to be fairly ancient to appreciate this one.

The Canary and Linnet in Little Fransham on the A47 in Norfolk, not so many miles from me, is a well-named pub – for it’s midway between Norwich and King’s Lynn, the Canaries and the Linnets in footballing terms.

Sid: the KD is one of my locals.

In younger days, but after Albert & The Lion, is the ‘Live and Let Live‘ in Forest Gate, where we used to drink ‘Light & E’.

FG is the place of my birth (which means my Birth Certificate will forever carry District of West Ham 😱).

😂😂
When i was a kid and the family went to Sarfend for a Sunday day out we stopped at the Halfway Inn on the A127 for the adults to have a couple of drinks. Nowa'days you probably get to Sarfend from Hackney in around 40mins as against the old days when i'm guessing it took around 2 hours (plus half hour drinks).
