1. In 2014, a flight from hell from Salta down to Buenos Aires, when I worked in Argentina. Flying doesn't bother me but that was two hours of hell. The plane at times wasn't just going through normal turbulence; it appeared to be getting tossed all over the place. It was only a smallish Embraer jet; that Aerolíneas Argentinas use for domestic flights; so it seemed to take the brunt of the storm worse than a larger aircraft may have. My only crumb of comfort was telling myself that Argentinian Civil Airline Captains are ex-Air Force........so they're ultra-experienced guys.
2. Lung surgery and then waking up in an I.C.U. when things had gone tits up.

Donald Trump. Scares me shitless.
Also, a few years ago, coming back to Gatwick Airport from holiday, we were just about to land, could have only been about three hundred
feet up, when all of a sudden the engines went to full power and we went up almost vertically to circle round the airport and then land.
There was no explanation, nothing. That was really scary.

1. Early symptoms of Ulcerative Colitis. Seriously thought I had arse cancer.
2. First ever landing in a glider. The lack of noise means you just don't realise how fast you're approaching the ground.
3. Getting a round in.

What is it like flying a Glider?

My first flight to Rotterdam and I was t paying much attention to what I was doing and due to this I booked myself on a propeller plane from City Airport. On the return journey I really thought this is it, times up. The turbulence had the plane falling and swaying like you can’t believe, drinks and anything not tied down we’re flying everywhere. I’ve never been so scared in all my life.

Quiet. The best bit is when you get to grips with the controls and start getting some competence at actually flying. Try it.

Mate, once you’ve had a close look at death, your perspective changes completely. I did the CBT but decided I just didn’t like being back on 2 wheels.
1st heart attack was over and done in a few seconds. 2nd one was much bigger. And f*cking terrifying because I knew exactly what was happening and could do f*** all about it.

Coming round in Resus and being asked if I knew where I was. I kinda guessed I was in Basildon Hospital. That pleased them. So they told me I had a cardiac arrest and was revived after 10 plus minutes. They let me absorb that. Then said we are going to fit you up with a catheter and stick a couple of tubes down your gob. Now that really scared me.

As has been mentioned, coming in to land at Shannon Airport the plane suddenly slewed away to show a light aircraft in the middle of the runway, I think the wing tip missed it by about ten feet. An Irish voice came up on the PA "sorry about that folks, learner drivers".

A two year bout of anxiety. There are no words to explain how low and terrifying that was. Irrational and repetitive thoughts about death (it’s my fear apparently but isn’t it everyone’s!) every 20 seconds for every waking minute for at least 3 months of the two years. Visions of being lowered into my coffin over and over. Shook constantly for 6 months and didn’t leave my bed. Overdid it on the booze and “others” and my brain had a meltdown. Awful.

1. Very bad car crash on the A12 when I was just 17. Three and a half months in hospital. Thought my number was up - and it probably should have been but for sheer luck.
2. Trying to land at Isle of Man airport in thick fog. Circled for a bit, then made an attempt. I was sitting next to a window. Could sense that we were getting lower and lower but could see absolutely nothing. IOM airport is right next to the sea so pretty worrying. Next thing big roar from the engines and we zoomed off almost vertically. Much screaming from the back of the plane. Diverted to Liverpool and sat there for one and a half hours, then pilot says he's going to have another go. Got back to being over IOM. More circling. Eventually start to descend again. Again, could see absolutely nothing. Very very quiet on the plane. Then eventually I saw lights and we were down safely. Much cheering and clapping!!
3. One of my daughters having been taken to hospital following a severe epileptic fit. Arrived in A and E to find her covered in wires and with all sorts of tubes sticking out of her, like an extra from casualty. She was only 2. Terrifying.

1. Disturbing a Murder Hornets nest in Japan.
2. The cost of the wife’s road bike hobby.
3. Knowing I’d only be getting a half when Dunners got his round in.
