Donald Trump calls for delay to 2020 US presidential election

Post by Sid Bishop »

Well Trump trying to delay the forthcoming US election has predicated for a while now, but will Trump be able to pull the strings to get his own way on this one ?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-53597975

He suggested a delay until people can "properly, securely and safely" vote.

There is little evidence to support Mr Trump's claims but he has long railed against mail-in voting which he has said would be susceptible to fraud

US states want to make postal voting easier due to public health concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.

To be fair, last time they voted for Trump, so this would at least spare them the embarrassment of doing something stupid again this time.

Of course Donald Trump would not be trying to delay the US Election due to the fact that at present he is so far behind Joe Biden in the polls ?

Believe only Congress can change the date, and that is Democratic majority. Plus it didn't get changed even during World War 2. He should theoretically have no chance, but whodathunkit that he'd be President anyway? Think the polls may be shaking him a little. They shouldn't.

Trump is a master at manipulation and will pull any rabbit out of the hat to try to retain power, wait and see what happens.
A typical megalomaniac antic of trying to keep in power as long as as possible. Putin is much the same and also applies to many other long dead Dictators and those of similar ilk who are around nowadays.

Apparently somebody’s family cat got a ballot paper through the post but the cat died 12 years ago. His concern is valid

His concern is valid is it? Really?

I'm sure that dead cat's vote made all the difference, in the overall scheme of things.

Rubbish. One error doesn't invalidate a whole election. And don't say 'but there's probably a lot of similar errors' - that's just buying into his BS.

I don't see why he is worrying about postal voting as he has brought to US Postal Service to its knees by refusing to fund all the losses they have made due to the virus. He has put his own man in charge, as usual with no relevant experience, and things are going down hill fast. It is very likely that millions of postal votes will not be delivered in time. This without the normal dirty tricks where, for instance, registered Democrat voters received their mail-in pack with the return envelope already sealed, making the whole thing invalid.

That one example has been given suggests the opportunity for this system to be rigged is real. Of course it is real. Don’t really care whether Biden or Trump gets the nod, so long as the villains don’t get to decide.

Did you check the link provided? It showed it is mythical nonsense. It always is. It is always the route the Poundland Dictators try screaming about.

Your YouTube usage must be staggering, Thor! :D

He couldn't executive order that. It would need to go through congress, which he doesn't have. And I doubt it would be put forward anyway as no-one would want their name on it, seeing as so many of the supporters of it so often talk about George Bush being a reptile, flying saucers and otherworldly beings trying to get it passed. Or that it already passed, hidden, somehow.

For anyone reading this thinking I'm taking the piss. I'm not, google it. It's proper batshit.

If he had any b-ll-x he should just do a Putin & declare himself President for life. That way, he would soon find out how he stands with the American public. You know that is what he would like to do.

As has been previously alluded to, congress decides, and as it has a Dem, majority, & their man is leading by a considerable margin, the chances of Trump getting the Election cancelled/postponed are nil.
I reckon, if he is still well behind with little chance of winning, he could well resign, so that in future he cant be called a loser.
his ego wont allow himself to lose..he'll go before that can happen

I heard on the radio this morning that Trump is now back peddling on that. Personally I think there’s going to be some fraud with postal ballots no matter when the election is held . Asking for a delay is therefore pointless anyway

Needing to cancel democracy to save democracy is proper tyrant behaviour. Someone would have to be sh*t thick not to see that.

This is more invalidating any potential loss in October. Trump and his enablers will play all the dirty tricks they can muster to cling onto power. Could get very sinister and dangerous, it's mad to me that any external observer could look at Trump and feel anything other than revulsion.

Yes fully agree with what you say. If only there were two decent candidates ( one on each side ) to run for the next US election !

It’s just another Trump off the cuff brainfart, and should be taken as seriously as all the other ones.

But rather like his surprise win in 2016, there’s still a little bit of me that fears he’s not a dead man walking yet...

They will litigate in every state they can to dispute the result. God knows how long that'll take to resolve. If Trump loses, it seems likely to me that him and his acolytes will dispute the result right throughout the autumn and winter, meaning you'll be looking at an awful first, where the sitting president will not accept he has lost. The lunatic fringe of his base won't need much asking to pop off if Trump loses and because of his extreme vanity, he will happily encourage them to do so.
