Maybe the dreams of a big club coming in for him haven’t materialised.

Let’s be honest he hasn’t really proved anything yet. That’s why it makes more sense for him to stay here and develop more before moving onwards

Hopefully everybody has taken a sensible pill and we can agree a mutually beneficial new deal.

Maybe his advisors have told him, it looks better to prospective future employers if he's training, rather than showing a bad attitude.
He still may be going elsewhere

Clearly fancies his chances on the end of Yaya’s precision balls. Wise choice to return imho.

Let us see what the end result is. Like many others on this forum, I hope Ruel signs a new contract with us and stays with the Os for at least a couple of seasons.

You’re right, he isn’t yet but he has the potential to be. That’s why he should stay at least another season and see how he goes.

I dont know, that's why i'm asking. Expect you would tell him to f... off because he did not sign the contract we offered. None of us know the details of why he is back training could be any of new contract signed or still negotiating. In the Martin Ling interview he said the club would welcome Ruel back into training.

Bit of cutting your nose to spite your face there though. Sometimes things need to be dealt with a bit more softly softly....

IF he signs on again for us then it's best for the club and what we all wanted from the beginning.

nope the interview was like Ling had shut the door on this - Ling said we have offered him a contract since November and the club had heard nothing
Need to sort budgets and get players in who want to play
Hundreds of players eagerly looking to play
pre season the time for team bonding, no time for hokey cokeys

Years ago clubs did hold onto players and refuse them transfers and football league clubs had a maximum wage structure. The maximum wage rule was abolished in 1961 and in 1963, the rule that restricted players from transferring to another club if they so wished was changed in favour of the players. So all in all, in the modern game, players have agents working on their behalf and they hold most of the aces in the pack when it comes to wage and transfer negotiations with the clubs.

https://spartacus-educational.com/Fwages.htm

''Despite the efforts of the Players' Union, there was no other change until 1945 when the maximum close season wage was increased to £7 per week. Two years later a National Arbitration Tribunal was established. It decided that the maximum wage should be raised to £12 in the playing season and £10 in the close season. The minimum wage for players over 20 was set at £7.
The maximum wage was increased to £14 (1951), £15 (1953), £17 (1957) and £20 (1958). The union argued that in 1939 the footballers' £8 was approximately double the average industrial wage, by 1960 the gap had narrowed to £5 with these figures standing at £20 and £15 respectively.
The players made further wage demands in 1960 and when these were backed by a threat to strike on 14th January, 1961. The Football League responded by abolishing the maximum wage. Johnny Haynes, the England captain, became the first £100 per-week player. However, some clubs such as Liverpool attempted to enforce unofficial wage ceilings. For example, Manchester United paid a maximum wage of £50 a week.
Newcastle United also tried to impose a maximum wage on its players. It also refused to sell George Eastham to Arsenal. The Players' Union took the matter to the High Court and in 1963 Justice Richard Wilberforce declared that the retain-and-transfer system was unreasonable and Newcastle's refusal to sell Eastham had amounted to a "restraint of trade". The following year the "retain" element of retain-and-transfer was greatly reduced, providing fairer terms for players looking to re-sign for their clubs, and setting up a transfer tribunal for disputes.''

Think you need to revisit that Ling interview KC, he clearly says that the club would welcome him back with open arms if he decides that LOFC is where he wants to be. Door remains firmly open.

Did he bring a letter from his Mum explaining why he wasn’t there last week?

Oh come on.

He’s laying all blame squarely at Ruels door here. If I was Ruel, Lingy going public like this and slating me would make me only more determined to get out.

Fair play to the kid for forgiving Lingy and coming back in. Let’s hope we can make a proper offer worthy of his ability and get him signed up.
