Macauley Bonne in today's papers

Reports linking him with a move to either Cardiff or Fulham (would imagine on the basis of which one of them is in the championship next season.)
Now I really hope we managed to get some worthwhile sell on clauses in his contract with Charlton last year???
Anyone have any knowledge on whether we did??

Hear Norwich also interested. Good for him, he proved himself in the championship and didn't deserve relegation.

Hope he gets a move that really suits him. Terrific worker and whilst not being 100% deadly in front of goal at Championship level, is a proven goal scorer. Will score more with better players around him. Did a great job for us over two seasons.

A colleague of mine had this to say about Bonne and Charlton:
Club is falling apart, think we will be in admin soon. It’s a mess!
Not sure if Bonne will stick around. He’s an interesting striker. He doesn’t seem to offer much in terms of link up play, assists etc. He’s not particularly quick or strong. Yet has the ability to always be in the right place at the right time.
He’s probably (at the moment) a league 1 striker, but has a lot of potential. During the run in he missed a lot of 1 on 1’s but overall, did an amazing job all things considered. I like him and think he would do well for us next season, (if we have a club to support!)

If he were to be sold to Fulham or Cardiff, what kind of transfer fee would they get for him? £800,000 / £1m?

He didnt see the best of Macca then but agree about the 1 on 1's with Charlton.

Sotiriou with this contract saga, all the other academy players who couldn't hotfoot it out the club quick enough at first opportunity and our favourite... Ebou Adams

I did ask that question in the opening post but no-one on here knows (or bothered to share the info.)

Bonne, what a hard working centre forward and Charlton got a steal when they got him for only £200,000 !
Yes be nice if we do get a bit of money if he is sold to another club, but the way it is nowadays, difficult to know for sure how much any players transfer fee is, same applies to how much the Os might get ?

For a player that scored double figures in the Champion ship last season, his first full season out of non league? A 1 in 3 ish goals per game strike rate?

Under normal circumstances, I would say 1.5 mill.
In these troubled times, I think 750k is about right.

I know why you said that, but if we'd sold him in that January we'd have got £250-350k? So for £150k tops we got promotion. I'd say that was a fair deal as the 3rd way was to force him to play and let him walk at the end of the season. For me, I'm gutted we lost Bonne but he left with his head held high and we got
something. Marvin is a good example of what could have happened.

The sooner people realise that we're currently a stepping stone to bigger things for lower league players the less stressful your lives will become.
It won't be this way forever. When (and it will happen under this regime) we get to the top of League One then we will become the predator rather than the prey. And we'll be able to scour teams like Peterborough and Rotherham do.
Then in time we will be promoted to the Championship. Where we will become the hunted again
That's how I see it anyway. That there are currently three tiers of professional footballer. Premier League player, Championship level player and then the Lower League player where in general (apart from a few outstanding talents) could be pretty much swapped in and out of any team from Fleetwood to Ebbsfleet as it's a lot more about organisation, structure and teamwork than individual talent.

Marvin, Bonne (massively over performed in the Championship) and Koroma (didn't get a look in in the Championship) are examples of players that can go from non-league to League One without a question as long as the structure is in place around them.

And another is Craig Clay. In the wrong set-up you wouldn't have him lacing your Jako boots in the National League North. Change the formation a bit and the players around him and in some of the games he looks like he's the new Iniesta.
