Who can remember that day?
Was you one of about 200 people who got on the Double Decker Bus about an hour after the game when it was finally safe to leave the ground?

Safe to leave ground?

It was never unsafe to leave ground

I left and had a good drink & chat with Oxford fans on way to bowling centre bat.

If you gloated and give it the big one then you deserved to get whatever came to you. Treat people with the respect they deserve and you will have no problem.

Agreed. I chatted to many Oxford fans after the game, never felt unsafe at all. The only problem I had was the roadworks not far from the ground with a 30mph limit. Didn't see it because I was hyped and ended up getting 3pts.

To be fair, I think it’s just us Orient fans that they have an issue with.

Maybe the Oxford fans were alright with you because you were obviously a neutral and not an Orient fan. Real fans had some trouble.

I remember it well because I had to miss it for a bloody family wedding and relying on text updates from mates at the game. The buggers got divorced within a couple of years too.

Probably the most tense & dramatic game I've ever seen.
I remember despairing when it was 2-2 & Grimsby were winning. Then the roar that went up after news of Northampton's equaliser came through. The dramatic winner that sealed it. Hugging people around you who were strangers.
We asked for directions from a PC after the game & ended up walking down an A road with 2 friends. I think he deliberately misdirected us but we didn't care.
We had a few drinks in the Bell in Leytonstone that evening.
An amazing day but the following day was very poignant as I went to visit my dad who was in a care home. He was a massive O's fan & it didn't really register with him that we'd gone up.
I knew then that he was deteriorating & he eventually died in 2007.
I had got to the stage where I thought we were stuck in L2 so a really unforgettable day.

I enjoyed the day, but it wasn’t as good as the time Kitch and the boys turned it around against Chelsea.

Know,I didn’t give it the big one and I resent the accusation that I did.
You obviously wasn’t in the same area as I and a couple of 100 other fans who hiding behind a police line being protected from a few dozen knuckle draggers from the Blackburn Leys Estate.
We were held back so the police could clear the idiots and then all of us and I mean all of us piled onto a Double Decker Bus to take us back to the city centre.

Totally safe. Mrs dOh and me, we walked to our car chatting with some Oxford fans who felt the best side won on the day. No malice, good humoured. Fair play to them.

Is it just a case of rose tinted specs, but I thought that day had much more tension and drama than the recent Braintree match ??

What crap? You describe yourself as a neutral when it comes to Orient so I don’t know what you’re getting so upset about.

Of course it did.
Now that a week has passed, and people's euphoria has tempered a little bit, it's good to see some proper perspective returning.

I still have mixed feelings about the win at Oxford - it was special to pull off promotion as we did, but I did go a bit OTT with my celebrations afterwards, shouting 'we are going up say we are going up' from my car window at pissed off Oxford fans..

Oh sorry, I never realised I was supposed to gob off, abuse Oxford fans and get into brawls with them. Sorry for treating rival fans with respect, talking and drinking with them. I will try harder to get into disorder with opposition fans in future.

apologies for going to a football match and behaving like a normal human being and not experiencing violence.
