Re: Essex CCC
That was a collapse by Notts 170-1 to 237 all out in less than 50 overs. C’mon Essex don’t foul up. A win is needed

Re: Essex CCC
I don't think I have ever seen such a dire batting performance from Essex, even the collapse to 57 all out at Lords in the 50 over final vs Lancs in 1996 was not as bad.
Inept, stupid, suicidal, poor, disappointing - it was all that and more. One of the experienced pro's and the coaches have to tell these youngsters they can't play Bazball against bowlers who have played for their country or have oodles of international T20/One-day nous.
OK, we didn't get the edges in the first session before the sun came out briefly and as a result their openers prospered. Notts did get those edges when we batted, but some of the shot selection was terrible.
So, so disappointing. There will be a fair few people won't be buying tickets for the next 50-over home matches. I wonder if I can get up the enthusiasm to go and I don't have to pay being a Life Member.

Re: Essex CCC
Too many youngsters - plus Khushi and Snater injured, and Harmer having a rest. Even Westley should have known better. He put them into bat - a captain's decision when he knows he has a weak batting side. Just awful.

I was going to go to a few of the games, but I don't think I'll bother. Might as well watch the stream on YouTube.

Re: Essex CCC
A lovely sunny day at Chelmsford today. I hope this doesn’t do a Jonah but Cooky and Browne batting sublimely at present

Re: Essex CCC
Cooky the same for 58. LBW and he didn’t seem happy about it. Both wickets for Michael Atherton’s son, Josh de Caries with his slow off spin. And he don’t half look like his dad in look and mannerisms

Re: Essex CCC
Westley next to go, bowled by de Caries. He’s bowling from Harmy’s end and on this performance Harmy is going to have a field day. Yet batting looked so easy before lunch

Nothing to do with Essex CC but I'm going to Lords this coming Saturday to watch the team I follow Bexley CC play in the National final , there should be all of 500 supporters there

Re: Essex CCC
Well it was a nice day in the sun and our Nos. 10 & 11 got us through to 2 batting points. Harmy then has to go through their batsmen like de Caries did today. Pity I'd already committed to helping the son-in-law at his business tomorrow otherwise I would have enjoyed another day in the sun.

Re: Essex CCC
Good start to the day 4 Middx wickets down for 30 runs. . Pity Surrey have already wrapped up an innings win.

Re: Essex CCC
Day Three Tea - Middlesex 42-4 needing another 403 to win. Harmer is turning the ball square but Yadav has chipped in with 2-2 so far. Hopefully all over tonight.

Re: Essex CCC
We need two max point wins and Surrey to implode in one match (unlikely) or weather to affect them (always a chance in September).
But if we do t overtake Surrey maybe that’ll be the spur to Sir Alastair to sign up for another 1-3 years. He is still the best opener in the County game.

Re: Essex CCC
On their day, Cook and Brown are probably the best opening pair in the Championship - eg Essex's first innings on Monday. Ability and consistency would be an absolute winner.

Re: Essex CCC
Very disappointing to be at Chelmsford yesterday. If only Critchley and Sir Chef had taken the catches that came their way, albeit difficult chances. But the saying is “catches win matches” and it is sooooo true. Ultimately a disappointing season. Now we have to replace Dan Lawrence and hope Sir Chef wants one more season. And time for Goochie to make another trip to South Africa to find another Tendo or Harmy.

Re: Essex CCC
If Sir Chef retires I’ve heard it muted that our opening pair next season is likely to be Browne and Walter, gulp.

Cook could still do a job for the England test team if he wanted to make himself available for selection.EliotNes wrote: ↑Wed Sep 06, 2023 10:17 pm We need two max point wins and Surrey to implode in one match (unlikely) or weather to affect them (always a chance in September).
