Top marks to the Grauniad for the effort made to avoid using the bad word at all costs.

The David Brent approach: ‘it’s ok because that was in the 40s before racism was bad.’

So the dog wasn't involved in the raid, just his racist name used as a codeword? Then why is he commemorated anyway?

Because he was a very good boy.

Everyone was racist back in the 40s, it's what drove us on to victory.

The dog was hit by a car shortly before the raid.
Guy Gibson arranged for it to be buried at midnight during the raid (at a time Gibson was reasonably sure he might be dying himself). The dog’s name was used as the code word for when the first dam was breached.

The dog has been renamed ‘Voldemort’ - he who shall not be named.

All ok when all this rappers use it repeatedly in their music? No wonder confusion arises.

About 10 years ago, i was at an auction, and a 100 year old book in perfect condition came up for sale. It was called 10 little N***** boys.
The auctioneer wouldnt read the title out, ( for obvious reasons). It fetched a high amount
I found a link to the book if anyone wants to see it for themselves

Really? Where, then, are the unified actions to stop children in Africa walking miles every day to collect (not fresh) water? The loud clamour against FGM? The action to prevent international Arms Sales to groups who are shelling families in the Middle East?

When we have resolved those issues then, and only then, do we have the right to wring our hands over to an historic name on the grave of a dog.

But its a lot easier and headline making to change the name of a dog 70 odd years after it died.

Ok though for Rappers to use the ''N'' name along with ''Common misogynistic themes include the use of derogatory names such as "bitch" and "ho", sexual objectification of women, legitimization of violence against women, distrust of women, the belittling of sex workers and glorification of pimping.''
Wonder if any attempts have been made to stop these awful words being used in songs that are written and performed mainly by Rappers ?

What utter utter rubbish. Just because there are other issues that need to be dealt with is absolutely no reason at all not to deal with things that are relatively easy to fix. And what gives you the right to say what the agenda should be? Also, please reread my post. I said the world IS COMING to its senses not that IT HAD come to its senses, the clear implication being that this is one small step bit there is a lot more to do. Thanks.

Why particularly? Why not all that contain "the use of derogatory names such as "bitch" and "ho", sexual objectification of women, legitimization of violence against women, distrust of women, the belittling of sex workers and glorification of pimping.''? Are some OK?

Didn’t say anything was ok. Was just interested in some of the examples Sid finds offensive or derogatory. I’m sure he wouldn’t have picked a topic he knows nothing about, that has a completely different context to what the threads about, in order to undermine the importance of racism.

I have to say, I find it intriguing that so many people get animated at minor infractions and offences to fairness, such as black people being allowed to use the "n word" when they cannot, or cyclists jumping red lights when they cannot - when they seem so indifferent to injustices that are a several orders of magnitude larger, such as wealth/educational inequalities, the disproportionate criminalisation of black people (even while other ethnicities are at least as likely to be offenders), the fact that driving a ton lump of metal at 30mph presents multiples of the risk to other road users as a 10kg bike travelling at half the speed...

(I'm taking the liberty to conflate these two issues, as I'm confident that in the Venn diagram of life, these two groups have a big overlap)
