League Two clubs are split over proposed salary cap

Manager of Bradford City, Stuart McCall, has already declared himself against the cap, as has Scunthorpe United chairman Peter Swann. The issue will be voted on by clubs and a decision is expected before the end of the month. However, it is far from certain whether it will get the go-ahead as a majority verdict is required.

I thought it was already decided.

Everything has been a proposal so far. Something will have to give if the game is to survive and thrive in the long term. How you can salary cap someone under EU law I'm not so sure how that will work or be allowed as the first player who goes to court will surely win under the laws as they stand today.

The better off clubs will vote against a cap, and the poor clubs will vote for it

It’s not fair and doesn’t put everyone on an equal footing. The % cap based on income is better but there’s too many loooholes they don’t wanna close.
Imo it’s just another backdoor way of making lower league teams reliant on loaning premier league youngsters and paving the way for feeder teams

used to love a cap gun as a kid. BB guns are good fun for a more grown up mess around.

They talk about a level playing field. The cost of living in Grimsby is a lot less than London. I’d say it favours them. I’m sure they are in favour. That is not a level playing field.

I suspect a cap won't be needed as none of the clubs will be able to play players that much with next to no income.

You may be right. I’m sure people of Grimsby get a “Grimsby Allowance” like many Londoners get a “London Allowance” due to increased costs.
Not to mention average house prices in London are 3 times higher.

Ian Holloway is not happy about it; “Why should a football club have a limit put on it by people who haven’t got a clue what they are talking about? Every club should be individually vetted to make sure it can pay what needs to be paid. Why would you limit someone? You want people to grow, you want people to get better. On the other hand, not everyone would be able to afford the limit that they give us – so it can still lead to people over-spending and clubs going bust, so for me it is a terrible idea."

Should be a % of turnover which is vetted properly.
Not the Man City thing where a company with a link to the owners pays a hugely over inflated price for things such as naming rights.

Whilst I hate to see bad owners killing clubs like Bury and Macclesfield by overspending, I do feel that a cap that penalises clubs with big support is unfair.
