Re: Jobi has signed a new one-year contract
Won't be a starter unless we are short in that area but sometimes having a player with Jobi's experience coming off the bench for the last 20 minutes or so can make all the difference in a game. I think we should enjoy what he brings next season I can see him taking up a role at Sky after that.

Yeah, he was injured up until March - almost certainly because he played on the season before to get us over the line, when he shouldnt have.
Great news.

I agree that perhaps his presence is worth more than his ability.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2020 7:37 pm Won't be a starter unless we are short in that area but sometimes having a player with Jobi's experience coming off the bench for the last 20 minutes or so can make all the difference in a game. Can’t help but be worried after you look back to the contract extensions last season to old and/or injured players and think we are making the same mistakes.
Said jobis contract last season was a mistake and I think I was right from purely a playing point of view. We’ll see, but as much as I’m glad he’s on the coaching staff, a playing contract feels like a mistake again

If money is tight they should be using those wages elsewhere. Make him Embleton's number 2. He'll bring more to the role than Brill.

Brill is already signed up until 2023 or something ridiculous.BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2020 9:57 pm If money is tight they should be using those wages elsewhere. Make him Embleton's number 2. He'll bring more to the role than Brill.

That's what the club wanted to do, but Jobi wanted to keep playing for as long as possibleBiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2020 9:57 pm If money is tight they should be using those wages elsewhere. Make him Embleton's number 2. He'll bring more to the role than Brill.

Re: Jobi has signed a new one-year contract
If we had unlimited resources, then yes, Jobi would be a 'nice to have' in reserve.
However, I really can't help thinking that this wage could have been used more purposefully towards signing a new player - preferably, a proven goal-scorer?

Given his age and long term injury problems a strange decision imho.

If we started up again on Saturday, he goes into the starting XI. Who would you have ahead of him?NuneatonO's wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 1:04 am If we had unlimited resources, then yes, Jobi would be a 'nice to have' in reserve.

Re: Jobi has signed a new one-year contract
I think the point is that that would be true based on his former pedigree. But he's 38 and hasn't played a full game of football for about 14 months now. I'd take a guess that he aint cheap either. Knowing he had a bad injury last season we effectively threw away being able to bring in at least and maybe 2 other players who could have contributed. I love the bloke and think he is 100% worth keeping on in some capacity but even if the season started next week and he started, how many games would he actually be able to play/theres a huge risk he gets injured again and thats it.RedO wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 9:37 amIf we started up again on Saturday, he goes into the starting XI. Re: Jobi has signed a new one-year contract
There have been a few 38 year olds who have done well in L1 and L2 eg Gareth Ainsworth of Wycombe. Jobi will hopefully be the same.
If not, expect the Embleton and Ling haters to have a field day.

Re: Jobi has signed a new one-year contract
Agree. Major questions marks over his fitness. Of course "if fit", he is an integral member of the squad, even if restricted to 20 minute cameos. If he's likely to play the same amount of minutes as last season of course, then the money would have been better spent elsewhere.NuneatonO's wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 1:04 am If we had unlimited resources, then yes, Jobi would be a 'nice to have' in reserve.

Hopefully his 'player' wages are tied to minutes on the pitch.
