MOST FRIGHTENING O"s AWAY GAME

Middlesborough FA Cup away 77/78 walking to the ground from the train station they were targeting and attacking O's fans. At the end of the game as we left our seated area the main gates opened and masses of Boro fans stormed in for trouble. Then walking back to the train station more of the same when we finally got on the train that was then targeted.
Other than that, lovely day out and boy did we shut them up in the replay Kitch and big Joe Mayo i think 2-0.

Was also thinking that our games with Millwall at the Old Cold Blow Lane (The Den) were a frightening visit. Me and my mates used to go in the Home End, not to take it i might add, but as a tactic to save us from standing out in the Away end.
I remember getting near the ground and a sign in red paint dripping down the wall saying "go further if you dare". What lovely chaps, jolley hockey sticks and all that!
If Immodium instants were out then i think i would have got through a couple of packets at them games.
Just a sideline for those that went to the Den i'm sure you remember thier dressing rooms were behind the goal at the home end. A couple of ex. O's players once told of being chased off the pitch and down towards the dressing rooms during a Midweek Reserve league match.

8,000 is what i remember reading in the walthamstow Guardian.
2 trains & about 25 coaches .
Other than the main gathering , there were Fans dotted all over the place.
Me & my dad were near the half way line in seats , his 2 mates were bang in amongst
the directors box & there was an O's fan who was the spit of
phil lynott but with short hair & a couple of his mates next to me .
Could clearly hear 3 different groups of O's fans singing.

Rotherham away in the playoffs in 99 was quite tasty. I had to get back to Sheffield by public transport after. Stood in the bus queue practising my best northern accent.
Sheffield (United) away is always eventful for some reason. Strangely never had a problem going to hillsborough

Middlesborough was really scary, seem to recall it was OK from station to ground as we were all together and had a police escort. Going back was something completely different and I would say that a large percentage of Os fans got some sort of thump. We bravely walked alongside a polce car all the way back through the precinct to the cordon of police around the station. Train back was not a pretty sight.
Never had any issues at Millwall but never felt comfortable there either, I think we were of little consequence to them tbh.
Getting away from Chelsea after we beat them 3-2 in the cup was a bit nervy, we were followed back to our car by about a dozen blokes who I think were just about to kick the living daylights out of us but just as we turned into the road where we were parked there were a couple of policemen parked up in a police car and the blokes turned back onto the main road.....lucky escape I think.

Middlesbrough without any doubt. Walking back to the station was horrible. I remember Boro fans asking O's fans the time, if you answered you got clobbered for being cockney and if you didn't answer you got clobbered anyway!!

I think the most frightening period is before my time, but things always kicked off against some shithouse non league northern team in the cup. Northwich Victoria and Grantham spring to mind.

I've never been to a Orient away game that was scary.
Leeds away with Man Utd was a bit hairy though.

Always found the Old Den intimidating- they seemed to have more nasty characters than most clubs.

Middlesbrough away, they threw anything they could find at us both in and outside the ground. They even threw bricks at the trains after they left Middlesbrough station.

They kept us in for ages at Grantham, trying to clear they way for us from their rampaging hordes!
Vaguely remember some of the coachers having to walk across the pitch after the game against northhwich and getting twatted.

That game against Millwall when we went 3-0 up in about 10 minutes. I was praying for them to score to calm them down a bit.

I'll see your 32 and raise it to 52 + .Home replay played on a mid week afternoon?
2nd replay at palace was full of Pompey fans vastly out numbering Orient fans and the O"s team never turned up football wise for that game.

I was 7 the 1st time we went to Millwall
We Went every season we played them
I was 11 for the away trip to Boro
so was an old hand by then .
If i really think about it though
Wet Spam vs manure when
Pop Robson scored 2 was probably the
scariest game i ever went to .
The fear of becoming a Spammer

His 2nd goal was my cue to ball my eyes out &
Scream like a badly injured chimp, which was enough
To get my dad to take a 5 year old me out.
It worked , we never went back again.

Leicester away FA cup in 1971
We went up by coach with little not being given much chance and ended up winning 0-2 Ian Bowyer and Peter Allen
The locals were not happy
not only did we out play them we out sang them
But have to agree Middlesboro was bloody awful

Millwall away c. 1971 when I was seated with 2 mates and the animals decided to come from behind the goal and over the wall to attack us. I was always quick but moved even quicker that day.

60 coaches leaving the Os to portsmouth - Hold on think about this 60 coaches travelling to the south coast. still remember getting to Brisbane road and seeing 60 coaches can you imagine it. Stopped off half way and all you could see was a convey of Leyton Orient coaches. I was on coach 30 something and when we arrived the noise just got louder and louder and louder. Forget the pompey chimes the fans were in full force and rocked the the wooden place on the side, and they met the full force of 6000 fans in full throttle , the stand was rocking and moving can you hear the pompey sing !!!!
