Did he really have to spend close to a million on re-painting the tail fin of Britain's equivalent of Air Force One when he was guilt-tripped into backing down on feeding hungry school children?

Seems to me he wants to be Trump's Mini-Me..or have I got it wrong? I will soon know, no doubt....

How many financial fiascos, though??

No, he didn't have to. However, the £900,000 that keeps being quoted was actually for the aircraft's periodic c-check maintenance. The paint job would have been needed anyway so, while the design may have added a few quid, it would only be an immaterial amount.

So it's no big deal. The government have't really spent close to £1million on a paint job, as is being widely misreported. Plus, I happen to think the livery looks quite good.

He’s learning from the garden bridge and the water cannon incidents, then.

The '£900,000 that keeps being quoted' was taken directly from the PMs spokesman. For the paint job alone.

If that's inaccurate (which it may well be, deliberately), it's Boris' spokesman's fault.

It's a sideshow designed to avert your gaze from the an endless list of f*** ups and chaos he's created elsewhere.

"Don't look at that death toll / bent secretary of state over there, come and look at what we did / didn't spend on a plane over here".

Fair enough. Although, that doesn't let the press of the hook, as they should do some basic fact checking rather than just repeating whatever a government spokesperson says.

Absolutely.

Even more so if they're then able to turn around and say it wasn't really £900k for just the paint job and we're all idiots for thinking it was.

What, like proper investigating and stuff? That's an interesting concept but can't see it catching on.

Where exactly did you see that the £900,000 also included maintenance costs?

At first glance, I can't seem to find that mentioned anywhere (neither by an official No.10 Spokesperson; nor from Raab when he was quizzed on it).

Yesterday it was reported that Johnson is on another spending spree, this time £500million

Today look at the assessment from some experts:

Johnson following in Graylings' footsteps, experts at throwing £billions into failed projects.

It’s an air refuelling tanker that can be fitted out as a VIP aircraft when needed. Plenty of pictures on the Internet today of it doing it’s day job in its funky colour scheme.

It’s also cheaper to have a dedicated aircraft than to charter airliners on the open market.

Yeah - thanks for that totally irrelevant 'whataboutery' contribution.

In other news, a tenner is worth two fivers.

As I asked - where is the proof that the £900,000 also included the maintenance costs?
