Maximum wage for incoming players of 62.25k
Apparently League 2 budget for clubs has been set at 1.25 m by EFL . The maximum wage for any incoming player has been set at 62.5k. Any player on an existing salary more than that will be put down as being earning 62.5k. League 1budgets will be higher. This will mean the league will be on a much more level playing field with the likes of Salford unable to pay silly money to players. We will be in a strong position as most of our players are still on contracts. Can anybody confirm the above.

Hi, can I just say that these are muted figures, nothing is set in stone yet.
As soon as we have a final decision we will announce it on Orient Hour, I think we won't be far out with those figures, but like so many other things atm it's not 100% certain yet. Thanks.

Re: Maximum wage for incoming players of 62.25k
Having a wage cap won’t stop big spending clubs unless controls are wide ranging.
For example, big signing on fees, maybe with payments spread over the duration of the contract. Contracted golden handcuffs for those players seeing out their contract, playing out a minimum number of games. Win bonus payments, draw bonus payments plus other more ingenious methods no doubt. Payments that maybe outside the overall wages budget, they ain’t wages.
And is it fair on teams like Bradford with their attendances of 15,000 if forced to compete evenly with Macclesfield with their 2,000 fans. Or Salford who have a rich owner willing to give money to the club, not loan, in order to achieve success. Or London based clubs where the cost of living is much higher. Will Orient lose out!
As for the salary, £62.5k is too low for an experienced professional in what can be a very short career when you consider most are shorter than the average 25 year mortgage.

I can see lots of footballers wives taking on highly paid admin roles at the club in the future.

They'll just get bigger signing on fees and bonuses.

Re: Maximum wage for incoming players of 62.25k
Thankyou for that moonwalk.
I think people have to remember that at the lg1 and 2 and Conf levels there will be many players looking for work as clubs, like firms up and down the country look to cut costs. A job playing footy for 50 - 60 k is a damn site better than being unemployed with no relevant work experience for any other jobs on offer.
Times are changing and outside the top levels of sport salaries are about to become more in line with other 'regular' jobs imho.

Is that figues fair on clubs in areas of high housing costs. The diffence between housing cost in London and Grimsby, for example, is huge. Londons cheapest is £481,000, Grimsby average £151,000.
As to ways around a pay cap, remember what Boston got away with.

I can understand the sentiments. But it’s up to the law makers to implement robust rules and include accountants and others in making them solid. If accountants and other shysters, as you put it, find workarounds don’t blame them, blame the law makers for not doing a good enough job.

We are so lucky to have Phoenix fm and Orient outlook programmes to keep the fans up to date with what’s going on.Especially with interviews with club directors and playing staff. I have a friend who is a Southend fan ( he cannot help it) who does not know whats happening at his club.Andy Gilson wrote: ↑Thu Jun 18, 2020 1:20 pm Thankyou for that moonwalk.

It’s probably best for him that he doesn’t know what’s going on behind the scenes at Sarfendmoonwalk19 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 18, 2020 2:16 pmWe are so lucky to have Phoenix fm and Orient outlook programmes to keep the fans up to date with what’s going on.Especially with interviews with club directors and playing staff. Re: Maximum wage for incoming players of 62.25k
Being a footballer is far from being a regular job. In fact many players careers are over by the time they are 35 or even before and for many, the skills they acquire playing football don’t add too much in the job market CV. All too easy to go from £50k/£60K pa to nothing. Those in regular jobs can use their time to climb the greasy pole and at 35 looking forward to job continuity.Andy Gilson wrote: ↑Thu Jun 18, 2020 1:20 pm Thankyou for that moonwalk.

Many stories of players not being able to look after their families when they don’t get paid even now. Some start all over again career wise at the same time of bringing up families and with a mortgage.
We all understand clubs need to live within their means and money is not plentiful. Why I fully understand when players choose a path to improve their finances by moving to bigger clubs.

So a mortgage in London is going to cost three times more than other areas. Renting will have a similar ratio, who is going to want to play in the Capital other than unmarried players when you can get so much more for your family with the same wage.

I suspect football will either become part time in lower leagues or alternatively clubs will be annexed to premier League clubs so under 23s can get experience. Orient would be well placed should the latter occur with three big clubs in the vicinity. May not be allowed to get promoted above league one under those conditions.

Not sure whether it will become official or not but yeah, if the wage structure is going to be this restrictive you can see us supplementing our squad with lots more 'free' loan signings from the bigger clubs.RientO wrote: ↑Thu Jun 18, 2020 8:04 pm I suspect football will either become part time in lower leagues or alternatively clubs will be annexed to premier League clubs so under 23s can get experience. Re: Maximum wage for incoming players of 62.25k
Part time, loans? Can see it going that way. With us trying to cosy up to Spurs we could well field several of their young players. A wage cap will be detrimental to clubs in high cost areas like London. Almost be like us watching Spurs reserves/U23 in a few years time.RedO wrote: ↑Thu Jun 18, 2020 8:48 pmNot sure whether it will become official or not but yeah, if the wage structure is going to be this restrictive you can see us supplementing our squad with lots more 'free' loan signings from the bigger clubs.RientO wrote: ↑Thu Jun 18, 2020 8:04 pm I suspect football will either become part time in lower leagues or alternatively clubs will be annexed to premier League clubs so under 23s can get experience. I know final details have yet to be published but unless it takes geography and fan base/Turnover into consideration the restrictions could well be the kiss of death. Not for me.
