Alex Lawless coming back to coach at the club
And Matt Harrold staying on in some form. Whilst they get rid of the goalkeeper coach and sports scientist. Jobs for the boys indeed.

Re: Alex Lawless coming back to coach at the club
Lawless was recognised as one of the best, if not THE best trainer in that squad and was hyper-professional. If he is coming in as a coach, that would make him a good role model for whatever level he would coach at.

Re: Alex Lawless coming back to coach at the club
No issue with a good quality coach coming in if they improve us. But given we are well stocked with coaches, a sports scientist and improvements in our analytics approach would appear to be higher priorities.

They're like homing pigeons now. Like Biggsy said, it's jobs for the boys.

Wonder whether we interviewed any BAME candidates for this role

Re: Alex Lawless coming back to coach at the club
Nigel said along the lines of how he feels its important that ex pros who've done well for the club, should be recognised if they want to move into coaching and that the club should try and issue them with a pathway for this - He highlighted the work Brian Saah is currently doing for the academy as an example.
Harrolds role hasn't been sorted yet. I'd imagine they'll both be coaching jobs in the clubs academy - something like the under15s, 16s etc.

That’s fine but don’t get rid of 2 members of staff and put it down to covid-19, employ more people then send loaded begging emails for people to donate the money owed. The Big Shot wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 7:58 pm Nigel said along the lines of how he feels its important that ex pros who've done well for the club, should be recognised if they want to move into coaching and that the club should try and issue them with a pathway for this - He highlighted the work Brian Saah is currently doing for the academy as an example.

Re: Alex Lawless coming back to coach at the club
Probably part way through doing his badges? Quite often these guys need to be attached to a club to finish the B badge. Fits in by doubling up as 1st team and fitness coach? Sounds like Brill is stepping back to make way for him. As for Harrold, he will be on expenses by comparison to what he earned here this season.

True, but right now we don't know what type of roles they may/will be employed in and whether its part time or full time.BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 8:03 pmThat’s fine but don’t get rid of 2 members of staff and put it down to covid-19, employ more people then send loaded begging emails for people to donate the money owed.

The full interview is here:
Otteley was very unlucky though I'll say that much, clearly the board feel there was no need to employ two qualified goal keeping coaches in the current climate and Dean Brill got the nod over him.

How does this impact Lawless? The Big Shot wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 7:58 pm Nigel said along the lines of how he feels its important that ex pros who've done well for the club, should be recognised if they want to move into coaching and that the club should try and issue them with a pathway for this

How many coaches do we have now?! Seems like it'll be 1:1 tuition at this rate

Re: Alex Lawless coming back to coach at the club
I think Lawless will be working with the academy on a part time basis, He was the best trainer at the club in his time here so if he can instill that work ethic in the kids will be good.
The club are talking with Matt Harrold about a "possible role" nothing yet decided.

I think this is an excellent concept. It may even encourage some players to join us if they see a future opportunity in football beyond playing.

Give him a job because he runs around for a long time?Top of the JES wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 9:10 am I think Lawless will be working with the academy on a part time basis, He was the best trainer at the club in his time here so if he can instill that work ethic in the kids will be good.

Outside of Jobi, for a club based in East London, it's disappointing to see no other BAME coaches or board members at the club.

Re: Alex Lawless coming back to coach at the club
Very topical but I have no doubt the club would'nt hesitate to make such an appointment if it was someone who could add something to the club, our physio Ketan Patel is of Asian decent btw and we have Brian Saah managing the Academy, Miguel De Souza was involved with our scouting set up don't know if he still is, We have had BAME coaches working with the age groups in the academy. Orient have always had there fair share of BAME players and staff more than many other clubs I suspect.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 12:12 pm Outside of Jobi, for a club based in East London, it's disappointing to see no other BAME coaches or board members at the club.

That's the impact of social distancing for you......
