Bandoff - Movie/Film edition
Ok, so having decided not to do Bandoff about pictures of famous (?) women, the next Bandoff exercise shall be about motion pictures - movies - or films (if you prefer)
Shall we just have a Bandoff for all films ever ? Or would boarders like to narrow it down into genres (e.g Best Gangster movies, best horror, best non-Shawshank-Redemption, etc etc) ? Iyt looks like we may be in lockdown for a while, so maybe having genres will spread it all out a bit.
What do you think ?

Genre based.
Given Coulro and the Dwarf fella’s current UFO obsession, how about sci-fi.

One category could be films about the Russian Revolution made by Sir David Lean.

Horror's scare me so wont watch them, sad films make me cry, adventure and happy endings for me. Snow White I can do, Bambi's a tear jerker, strangely enough like history, war, sport. Lawrence of Arabia, Zulu, most films with Steve Mcqueen, Brief Encounter, Watership Down, Lord of the Rings, I'll think of others

Re: Bandoff - Movie/Film edition
OK - I think there's some great suggestions here, so this is what I propose to do.
We'll have genre based competitions - one after another as it's probably too much having them run concurrently. I'm proposing that we start with 24 entrants for each competition, in 4 groups of 6 (random), with the top 4 going though to the knockout stages. This, I'd hope, will mean that there's less chance of a top film going out in the group stage - I think we'll try to have 3 votes each on the group stages.
At the moment I think the genres will be:
Gangster films (all countries)
Based on fact (e.g. Capt Phillips, Breaker Morant - so multiple sub genres)
Family Films
War Films
British Films
Westerns
Sci Fi Films
...then maybe more genres after we've got through these..
Obviously, one film could appear in several of these genres - Sexy Beast can be in Gangster as well as British - so movies could have more than one chance.
I'll propose a number of films in each category that I judge should definitely be in, and then open up for other suggestions to fill the 24 slots.
Sound OK?

Re: Bandoff - Movie/Film edition
Good ones - forgot animated ! - and sports films! (Escape to Victory, obvs)
Like the idea of Films with Bears (although there's an easy winner, I think we'd all agree). Let's all get our thinking caps on to come up with 24 - maybe it won't need a group stage. I can think of - Jungle Book, both Paddingtons, Great Outdoors, Winnie the Poo )
Watch out for the 1st set of Gangster films, coming soon.

Re: Bandoff - Movie/Film edition
I'll retain all Genre suggestions (feel dumb for missing them) on a document and will pick the next as we need them (feeling like the next might be Family or comedy or animation) I'll try to keep mixing it up.
