Coffee recommendations
Because I've got f*** all else to do than shop online, I've been trying out some different ground coffee brands aside from the supermarket stalwarts.
I mainly use an aero aeropress, but occasionally use the cafetière if making more than one cup.
Recently tried Aromistico Napoli blend (very decent) and Spiller & Tait's signature blend (bloody delicious). Do boarders have any recommendations for other brands? What's your personal favourites?

Re: Coffee recommendations
There was always a bottle of Camp Coffee in our house in the 60's. I think it was the same bottle for the entire decade. I was shocked to recently discover that this evil concoction is still available to buy. We were really Mellow Birds people

Re: Coffee recommendations
I’ve been ordering from union coffee which is based in east London. All the beans I’ve got so far have been delicious. They also get delivered within about 2 days, and freshly roasted.
A little expensive at around 7 quid for 200g but not extortionate.

Re: Coffee recommendations
So much c*** written, spoken and advertised about coffee. Nothing wrong with the old granules or powder in a jar for me. Only thing nowadays is that due to medical reasons, it's got to be decaf.
And don't get me started on the waste involved in "Nespresso" machines and such like promoted by celebrities who the next day are spouting forth about the "green" credentials.

Re: Coffee recommendations
Like all good commies we have an eye-wateringly expensive Jura bean to cup machine, but gave up on all the overpriced “artisan” brands and find the strength 5 Italian expresso beans the supermarkets do (Sainsbos, Waitrose, M&S) for about £2.50 for 250g is fine for us. Use a dualit milk frother for lattes.
Also have an aeropresse which we take on villa hols with us, but then we just buy the available local ground brew. Can be a challenge in places like Greece where it’s usually really strongly flavoured (but disguised by the so-so uht milk we froth up using one of those small battery jobs). If we ever buy a rare powder at home, it’s usually Illy or Lavazza.
Can’t be doing with instant coffee. It’s tasteless and vile.

Re: Coffee recommendations
I used to have a La Pavoni espresso machine with a steam wand for frothing the milk, but it was huge and took up loads of counter space, so eventually we gave it away and now use a stove top Bialeiti Moka pot for the coffee and a Bialetti milk frother (like a plunger system). It's really easy to store and keep clean. We usually buy Lavazza powder which seems to work just fine.

Re: Coffee recommendations
I have a de longhi with a steam wand. I have been trying some own label blends over the course of the last few months, have to say mainly average at best but was pleasantly surprised by Asda house blend which I bought on a whim a few weeks ago £1.24 for 227 grams. It's very good and at that price compares favourably with the some of the major branded coffee I have had in the past.

Re: Coffee recommendations
I'm not really a coffee man, but I have a morning Nespresso, with froth, on the mornings I'm at home (everyday atm).
I'm a bit concerned that they're not very eco-friendly, so I bought some compostable (filled) pods from a local company.
Absolutely foul.

Been using coffee.uk.com great choice of beans and ground, been using these for about 4 years. Wouldn’t go anywhere else!Dunners wrote: ↑Sun Apr 26, 2020 8:52 am Because I've got f*** all else to do than shop online, I've been trying out some different ground coffee brands aside from the supermarket stalwarts.

Re: Coffee recommendations
Love the smell of coffee but I don't drink it myself. Here's a suggestion.

Re: Coffee recommendations
Dalgona Coffee
Ingredients:
2 tbsp instant coffee
2 tbsp of sugar (this can be any sugar – white, brown, raw or coconut)
2 tbsp hot water
400ml milk
Method:
Put the instant coffee, sugar and hot water into a mixing bowl and whip the mixture with an electric hand-held whisk until it gets fluffy. It should also be light brown colour.
Pour cold milk (or heat it if you want to serve it hot) into a glass – you can use ice with the cold milk – and divide between two heatproof glasses.
Spoon the whipped coffee mixture on top of the milk. You can smooth it out or can add peaks to it by dragging it upwards with a spoon.
If you want to give it a boozy kick, you can also add in 1 tbsp of Baileys or Kahlua when you are adding the milk to the glass.
The frothy mixture is also great for topping brownies, dipping cookies into, or even incorporating into your home bakes.

Re: Coffee recommendations
I was about to say the same. However, there is a Kenyan Blue Mountain version. The plants are grown from seeds form the Jamaican variety but, as there's more arable land space, Kenya has been able to produce it in greater quantities to keep the price down.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2020 9:48 aman incredibly expensive!Smendrick Feaselberg wrote: ↑Sun Apr 26, 2020 11:31 pm Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee is incredibly nice

Re: Coffee recommendations
I should also say, I only ever drink my coffee straight - no milk, sugar or any other additives.

Re: Coffee recommendations
Coffee is for satanic heathens. Tea is the chosen hot beverage and it is how it will remain.
