In World War II, just after Churchill took over and just after Dunkirk there was a big change in attitude. Churchill had many, many negative characteristics, but he had a knack for recruiting the right people for the right job. Union man Ernest Bevan was put in charge of Employment- He did a lot to end Union disputes etc and got conscripts working in the coal mines. Max Aitken was put in charge of aircraft production and we started to churn out much needed fighters. Gubbins was put in charge of SOE and dirty tricks operations- they made many ingenious inventions, eg, gammon bombs. Etc.
Now the total reverse. Inept Ministers floundering. Many playing the blame game. Total inablity to delegate jobs to the right people. Lack of using the very talented people the UK has. Time for Bojo's boys to sort things out. If they are not up to the job, and are as patriotic as they claim to be, they should put their hands up and let others take over. As did Chamberlain.

Give it time, they will gradually be moved on, He did a massive reshuffle with his cabinet after his election, now the civil servants need a kick up the proverbial, the public kicked labour out of site for being so bloody stupid having Jeremy Corblmie as leader also adaopting very left wing views.
no party wins elections in this country starting from extreme left. Next up for a good tanning is the judges who continually voted against Boris then the house of lords, lots of upheaval in the offing hang on to your hats bumpy ride lots of blood good fun all round

Get rid of the civil servants the cabinet don't agree with, get judges to swear an oath of loyalty to Boris and only act in the interest of the government, and allow the PM to act without being hindered by opposition in Parliament.

Tory MP's are the paid representatives of finance capital. That is who they serve not themselves although they are well paid and have many jobs outside parliament on Company Boards or consultants.

I’m no Tory, but Corbyn couldn’t decide/didn’t have the balls to say which way he’d vote in the most important constitutional event of our lifetimes. So I wouldn’t hold out much hope that he’d lead the country through a global crisis.

This incompetent govt deserves all the flack that’s coming their way but let’s not rewrite history here

What a ridiculous comparison. He couldn't answer because his party was split enough already on that issue. It was for political reasons he did not reply not incompentence. Anyway it was a secret ballot.

Well you're trying to write a history that never happened.... we'll never know how Corbyn would have handled this situation so stop making ridiculous assumptions. What we do know is his response would almost certainly have been based around minimising fatalities and properly supporting the NHS - unlike the current shower of Tory incompetents.

One of the ironies of Churchill getting the PM gig was that Chamberlain was forced to resign because of the calamitous Norway campaign...which Churchill was in charge of.

His political opponents wanted him to state his own position, because they knew that either answer would alienate a chunk of his own potential electorate.

It's also transpired in recent months that maybe things like investing in the NHS and addressing the horrific inequality gap in the country might actually have been a tad more important than " the most important constitutional event of our lifetimes".
