No it's not. If, and it's at best an if, letting people in to the Country and not telling them to self isolate had little impact on the numbers dying then it's still the wrong thing to do. Why? Well we're getting to a stage where some are questioning the need for lockdown, some will have lost their jobs due to lockdown, some will be desperate to get back to work and earning, and in this climate it's irresponsible and frankly a terrible motivator to allow people to fly in to the Country and do as they wish.

poo poo management and lack of comprehension once again from this atrocious "government".

Unfortunately our Home Secretary has gone missing and also f*cking useless.

Could accept this as an oversight with everything going on to start with but the fact it’s still happening is f*cking outrageous

This is the correct answer.

They were never in control of any plan. For two weeks they did nothing. They are responsible for the deaths of thousands.

They wanted to pursue an untested herd immunity strategy so that economic life could continue and profit, as always with the capitalist class and their cheerleaders, came before the welfare of the people.

The crisis has laid bare the evils of capitalism and the complete lack of care for workers. They are dispensable and always have been.

I hope those who voted for these incompetent Tory scum can now see how foolish and misled they were.

If you wanted more evidence of the scale of cock up underway. Likewise the PPE debacle. Inept is too kind.

Paywalled. What's the gist?

I wonder what "following the scientific advice" - the catch-all, get-out-of-jail-free card that they are going to attempt to play at every stage - actually means/meant.

How much of the "scientific advice" came from Behavioral Psychologists ? Remember Maureen Lipman in the BT adverts saying "you got a 'ology - that means you're a scientist". I wonder if they just packed the "scientific" panels with these sort of characters so the panel came up with the answer Cummings wanted.

Aren't the people on the very few flights coming in to the country either Brits returning home, or people flying onwards, because Heathrow is a major hub?

The late call for manufacturers to produce ventilators has been a total f*cking disaster. They sought to build new models from scratch with non specialist producers that eventually turned out, surprise surprise, not being to standard. This was instead of encouraging these manufacturers who were totally new to building this kit to follow established blue prints, despite being warned throughout that this was extremely risky and unlikely to be approved.

They seem to miss every target they set themselves. Remember how essential it was to 18000 ventilators to know that we could handle the peak? We're in the peak and about 8000 short.

Pretty much. Flights are reporting very low PAX. It's really not worth getting worked up about.

This week BA started flying their remaining B747s out west for scrapping. You'll never again see the Queen of the Sky flying, except for a few cargo variants. Im quite sad about this, as it will mark the end of an era and was a truly remarkable feat of design and engineering.

The few remaining A380s will be flown by Emirates, but these too will be phased out. The industry is expecting an initial glut of cheap seats when they start flying again, but that is likely to hasten the demise of many airlines. When this is all over, and following the inevitable insolvencies and buyouts, the aviation industry will be much smaller. Business class is likely to become a thing of the past and flying will become a lot more expensive for the rest of us.

Jesus - what a (seemingly preventable) mess

The target thing seems to be a recurring theme. They set themselves a target - let's say "We're going to get to 10,000 tests a day this month". When it's entirely clear that they're missing that target, instead of apologising, or even explaining why they're missing it, they just double down and say "now we're going to get to 25,000 a day by the end of the month". Again, when it's clear they're missing that, they double-down again and invent another impossible target "we're going to get to 100,000 a day by the end of the month". Do they think we're stupid ? (rhetorical question, obvs)

They seem to be mixing up having and setting targets with actually performing.

Yeah but how do you know Labour would have been any better?

Also yeah but now is not the time for point scoring.

At least he has abit of cop on to lay low and hope the storm passes over. I know he had the virus and needs some rest but we have no need to be concerned when you have this "Stable Genius" in charge or pretending to be in charge.

And yes, this was from over a year ago
