Mayor Khan and Facemasks
Our tw*t of a mayor can't get any worse? Could he?
So today he says everyone on public transport should wear face masks. So Mr mayor where are your workers face masks? Why are you not protecting your workers?
This man is a tosser of the highest order, how can he call for something yet fails to protect the very people he is asking to ferry the public around.
He is a hypocrite of the highest order.

More concerning is that he's going against official advice which could mean this PPE being taken away from those who need it most.
You and your mate had any luck flogging that PPE yet Thor?

Can you please supply a link where it says that tube drivers have no protection. No idea if you're right or wrong but some proof would be nice.Thor wrote: ↑Fri Apr 17, 2020 11:04 am Our tw*t of a mayor can't get any worse? Could he?

Re: Mayor Khan and Facemasks
Going against official advice? Our health experts have really got it bang on so far, haven't they? Germany is recommending the use of face masks on public transport. They've got a bigger population than the UK and about a third of the deaths. Maybe their experts are a bit better than ours?

Re: Mayor Khan and Facemasks
Maybe, but this isnt Germany. You think its a good idea for the public to panic buy masks and deny the NHS them?

Re: Mayor Khan and Facemasks
Every expert opinion I have read or heard has stated that, unless used in accordance with instructions (which requires training), masks are not going to be effective and may even increase the risk of contagion. The expert view remains that washing your hands regularly is the most effective means of stopping the spread of the virus.
Considering this, and the fact that the public buying up supplies could lead to shortages for healthcare workers, I hope the media ask Khan to explain why he believes this is a sensible strategy.

Re: Mayor Khan and Facemasks
Wearing anything over your mouth and nose will help stop the spread, its doesn't need to be a "facemask". The paper ones you see around are designed to stop coughs and sneezes infecting others rather than protecting the wearer.
The ones they need now in hospitals etc offer better protection where before the paper ones were sufficient in pre coronavirus times.

Re: Mayor Khan and Facemasks
Quite. Mick McQuaid on here has also posted an informed view on their use on the Coronavirus thread which should be required reading before anyone declares whether "the public" should or should not be required to wear facemasks.Dunners wrote: ↑Fri Apr 17, 2020 11:58 am Every expert opinion I have read or heard has stated that, unless used in accordance with instructions (which requires training), masks are not going to be effective and may even increase the risk of contagion. There should also be some distinction between "facemasks" and "surgical masks / PPE". Asking people to wear a scarf across their face on public transport so they reduce their chances of passing on the virus a bit is very different to asking people to wear surgical masks and deplete the country's stock of PPE. I wonder which of those 2 things Khan said (or meant). Perhaps he should be asked to clarify (assuming, of course, that his message has been correctly quoted already)

Think its a case of 'it can't do any harm', as long as the public are buying kit that isn't up to scratch for health professionals anyway. Seems to be in place in the SE Asian countries that are doing well at limiting spread.
Did see someone in the supermarket the other day sporting a version of this:

which felt a little OTT.

Not just Khan, but Snapps asking for it. As you alluded to, original post wasn't accurate. Hope this helpsStillSpike wrote: ↑Fri Apr 17, 2020 12:05 pmQuite. It's almost as if the OP on this thread was just wanting to have a pop at Sadiq Khan (for some reason) and has twisted the story to suit his purpose. If the Mayor is wanting people to take an action that makes them less likely to pass on the virus if they may be carrying it, then that strikes me as him trying to protect his transport workers. Doesn't sound very uncaring or hypocritical at all
I wonder why Thor wants to have a pop at the Mayor?

Khan is about as middle of the road non entity mayor you could ask for, yet really sets right wingers off. Odd isn't it.

It truly is. It must be difficult for the guy who runs the local convenience store in the village of Much Rage in Kent where, apparently, Thor bides.

Re: Mayor Khan and Facemasks
Read the bit where the difference between using PPE (wrongly) in a vain attempt to protect the self, and using a scarf/bit of cloth/paper in a reasonable attempt to reduce harm to others, is discussed.
