What do boarders think about them?
Does anyone use them when going out?
What type do you use?
I am going to start using one when i go out from now on, even though Ive only been out once to get food in the last 9 days
Thing is, I havent got one, and this afternoon am going to make a home made one, from a video on you tube.
I know it isnt as good as a 'proper' one, but on the basis that any mask must be better than no mask at all, I'll give it a try

Find them kind of irritating. From what I've read, more likely to stop you spreading something than catching something.

Quite
The advice we've had up here is that we should not be using them.
As pw says, they're more likely to stop a carrier spreading the bug, than stop you catching it. Just about everyone I've seen wearing one has been fiddling around with it, touching around their face & eyes with bare hands that have been in contact with their shopping trolley, products cash etc.

But then they must do something if medical professionals need them.

I'd imagine that a) medical professionals are more likely to know how to wear one without constantly fiddling with their faces
b) by dint of their work, then cannot stay 2m from their patients - who, by definition are likely to be carrying at least something, if not Covid 19, so maybe they have to rely on masks rather than the more effective social distancing, and
c) - and very sadly - I wonder if medical professionals are more likely actually to be carriers themselves (see above), and they wear them to reduce the chances of spreading to their patients.

Would have been a definite improvement if my ex had worn one!

As protection they are effective for about two hours if fitted properly and not fiddled with. We have a ridiculously short supply and are now working with people who have tested positive. It's incredibly annoying seeing people walking around with surgical masks hanging off their chin while they have a chat with someone and then putting it back on.

I was talking to a mate of mine this very morning about trying to get in and buy some PPE and flog it to the NHS. As he rightly said bigger people than you and I are in it already, have the supply, the contacts and knowledge. We have none of that and you'd have to work it out in double quick time and then be waiting to get paid after you've delivered it.

Just out of interest, would this be a business venture? IE would you be looking to sell to the NHS at a profit?

Never thought of you as a particularly altruistic person, but well done for keeping whatever germs you might have contained and accepting some increased risk for yourself in order to do so.
Basically what you are doing is putting material on your face that will become warm and moist pretty soon and therefore perfect for keeping any viruses viable. It's also a great way to make sure that you're topping up that load by wearing something on your face that is going to mean you are going to keep unconsciously touching it. I assume like most people you then take it off when you're in a 'safe space' transferring whatever is on the outside on to the surface you put it on while you unpack your shopping and then put it back on when needed, by which time anything that was on the outside is now on the inside too for you to literally have pressed against your mouth and nose.

Your first thought about this horrible pandemic is 'how can I make money from this?'. Pair of dicks.

I know that, but I wanted him to admit he was trying to make money out of people's misery, and out of this crisis

As already said, they are useful in avoiding the spread, protecting others from infected droplets should you cough or sneeze. Iād call that considerate to others rather than useless. Limited value in protecting you from others but useful the other way round.

Sorry I wasn't clear useless in protecting you from disease, not others from your disease
